Aston Martin AMR25 Speculation Thread

The team at the end of this year* definitely wasn't on the same upwards trajectory they were on in late 22, but the new simulator did seem to do something for their understanding of the car. If it can improve their setup understanding it should help with development too, shame it came too late this year to significantly influence any of the in-season upgrade packages.

In terms of speculation, I'm not sure what to think, but I'm excited to see what Bob Bell and the team puts together.

*it's still 2024 for me

I can imagine that their approach is slightly more careful this time, how much info they leak, even informal in the pubs. How many times the wind tunnel numbers didn’t match with the reality in the last 2 years… :x

But I have the same opinion, the technical team has to prove to themselves that they finally have an understanding of these cars. It’s a quality question.
I dont know whether to take him seriously or not bcoz till know Mike Krack talk is all bla bla bla and zero Improvement in below article Mike Krack saying AMR25 the number from wind tunnel is encouraging.

this "interview" is incredibly vague. he says one sentence about wind tunnel numbers looking "promising", and then immediately starts talking about people that dont have anything to do with the 25 car yet haha. i think theyll show some improvement. but i dont expect anything more than a possible clear #5, until later in the season... maybe.. clearly ahead of haas and alpine for the start of the season would be a huge improvement over most of the last half of 24. i hope im wrong though, if haas can figure it out with half the manpower and half the money, theres no reason aston cant make another big jump.

This quotes from Krack are from the official website from 07.11.2024.

Another article that Mercedes will change quite a bit at the back.

Thankfully it's the last year, that the team is dependend on others.

From 2026 it will be 100% their work. Could be good. Could be bad.

Front suspension will be interesting and when or if the team switches into the new tunnel.

Krack said recently on their website that once the tunnel is online after commissioning (which will be shortly) they will need to learn how to use it properly first and results won't be seen immediately. Moreover he said in Abu Dhabi that the tunnel is "ready" in 2-3 months (Februar-March)

Will they ever use it for this car or exclusively for the 2026 car?
I'd be very surprised if they don't use the wind tunnel for both. Even if the wind tunnel ends up negatively affecting the performance of the AMR25 they would be stupid not to use it in order to get real world data to compare to the wind tunnel numbers. I expect all AMR25 development to happen in the new wind tunnel as soon as it becomes available, and they might even save wind tunnel time in order to use it more.

It would be diabolical to develop the 2026 car in a wind tunnel that hasn't been correlation-tested. It would be almost as idiotic as Virgin attempting to develop a car with only CFD.

The correlation work is a job for an old modell, where they have already all the data, as far as I understand the process as an amateur how McLaren and others did that.

McLaren reopened their updated tunnel in 2023, but the 2023 modell wasn't put into the tunnel. They only put the 2024 modell into the updated tunnel and parallel into the Cologne tunnel (parallel work until they were happy with the results).

Auto Racer claimed that their own tunnel will be used for the 2026 car.

But let's see.

edit:

The motor.es article is based on a press information from AMR, as the race had the same article some days ago:

https://www.motor.es/formula-1/newey-as ... 05989.html

https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/insi ... oed-newey/

"the Race":
All things considered, Aston Martin will be able to start properly using its new tools by the first quarter of 2025
I am sceptical the author of motor.es really has infos.

Come on guys, it's obvious they are going to use the wind tunnel for the 2025 and 2026 cars. They should definitely check correlation; it will be stupid not to do so. The wind tunnel limit times apply for both wind tunnels obviously, so the most important job of 2025 is to get the best calibration possible of the wt, because if there isn't correlation, then all the work is thrown away.

Looks AMR25 will benefit from new Wind Tunnel more than we as expected

Would it be possible for Aston to delay the FIA chassis tests a few weeks for quick input from Cardile or is this nonsense / too late?

Likely to be well into production schedules now for start date target. I doubt such a core component could be changed in the timescale mentioned.

Thanks. The latest I can remember a team passing the crash test recently was Alpine last year at the end of January, but you are right the timescale is just too short.

Yes, Alpine failed their test initially, then had to literally slosh more resin and composite materials at it to get it through.

Overweight, delayed and slow initially, took some time to realise the potential of their design toward 3rd 1/4 of season. quite a while to untangle the initial start spec.

It's usually the absolute aero surfaces that continue development throughout, then to possibly give final, iteration just in time for delivery to Bahrain.

It's certainly hard to read this AM chassis given just how fluid the background influences are during this period. Staff, facilities, concept, 2026 mitigation etc etc.

Hopefully there's a base level mechanical setup here that can get "polished" a little as various of the above elements take effect.

Questions about the MB scourced transmission and rear suspension too

Aston Biggest Issue has been the floor. The Aero above the car was completely unrelated tot he aero underneath it giving the car random results(soo would be top draggy at times and then very slippery at times good downforce at times and then no downforce other times) The changed Mercedes Gearbox could be the ticket for Aston for 2025. I don't expect championships till 2028 to be fair but at elastic win before the new regs Will be a great morale boaster.

Just 1 month left for the reveal, it is very quiet from the team, no news on crash test or the development on the car.
Don't know what to expect,

Motorsport It:
During 2024, Mercedes has often suffered from excessive degradation of the rear tires over long distances due to overheating, thus limiting traction performance

A problem also shared with Aston Martin, which uses the same components, and which Mercedes is trying to solve for 2025 with the W16.
