I think it is time to refresh the moderators. What do non-moderators think?

In the name of a healthy democracy, a community should not have permanently embedded leadership. This is something that has been proven time and time again throughout history.

At the end of the day, a moderators task function at minimum, is to reinforce (by moderating discussions of course) and enforce the rules of the forum. It's not a special skill, a wide range of users can do this. Perhaps the availavbility, the dedication and trust is what needs to be filtered to find good candidates, but my point is, it's not a careless thing to cycle the batch of moderators every now and then, and its a sensible thing to do.

Do you suggest there is a line of volunteers just waiting for a chance to moderate but being denied their turn? It seems to me moderating is the commitment of a lot of time and energy to a task that is essentially thankless.

More serious, yes it would be great to have more moderators. Everybody has unconscious bias, a bigger variety in moderators will thus reduce bias.
More importantly. If it is always the same guy that is telling that you went over the line, it is easy to convince yourself that the issue is with that guy, and not with yourself. If it is 10 different guys telling you to shut up, you are more likely to question yourself.
But in general I think the issue is more a lack of self criticism of members than a lack of moderators. And if moderators would be biased a bit, it's that really such an issue? This will not be the only place where you do not always get your way.

Standards of the current internet? I can only guess that's a vast range and a very low average! You seem to suggest if your're at that low average nothing is broken?

Given that moderating is a thankless task, and that most of this supposedly technical site is devoted to random "Oi like this guy, the other one's a wanker" threads, I suggest that the mods have the patience of Job.

To be fair, i've heard more complaints than anything positive regarding the moderating - especially from one moderator in particular. It's amazing when you speak to countless other people across different platforms, how they all share the same thought.

Makes you wonder why other valuable members have either moved on or no longer post as much as they do. Cant all be a coincidence can it really.

In all Fairness the mods do a damn good job in this forum.
The increasing popularity of F1 makes it a tough challenge to keep this forum technical.

Every Mod have their own ‘signature’. And I respect their decisions and consistency in reviewing post.
Doesn’t matter if you personally agree or disagree with their decisions.

I understand high trees catch a lot of wind. But all in all the good things done stay invisible but is and are crucial for this forum.

But adding fresh blood to help the team with the increasing amount of posts would be helpful.
Maybe tailored thread (read team) mods would be helpful.

That give the current mod team to stay in oversight and have their work lightened by a team of ‘thread-moderators’.

From the Team site: These people are/were a moderator. Only Hollus am CMSMJ1 are still active.
Most others logged in/were active as a moderator a long time ago [months/years].
Happy to see Stu logged in this week after 3 months away. Hope he is fine and will work again as a moderator.

A little while ago there were 4 new moderators, from those only CMSMJ1 is still active.
So 2 moderators active on this huge forum? They can use some help I assume.

Well that's how it always goes. Moderators aren't typically the topic of conversation until something gets disputed, in which case somebody is complaining. So of course you're going to hear more negative than positive about them. That goes for anywhere.

I'd be very curious to hear what you guys actually have a problem with. Speak up.

You only have to go back and read through the "mods being threatening" thread to get a decent idea. I mean it would be unfair to share information from PM's, or the reasoning thats warnings or bans originated from (on here), but ive seen countless of them that have been shared with privately away from the forum.

You dont even need a "dispute" here for it to be brought into question. I read enough of the forum before it gets moderated, so tend to see a lot of posts "how they are wrote" (before moderation).

As I said previously. It always tends to be one moderator who does the "heavy lifting" that the majority of the people appear to have a problem with. And then, that sort of style from one person makes you wonder why a lot of decent people left from posting on here. And thats not have the style of posting is on a forum, given those member are active on other forums with much more similar, or relaxed, style of posting.
