If Verstappen is leaving, the car is not capable of a title fight.nitrotech wrote:If Max chooses to leave the team for Aston Martin in 2026, will the team fully back his 2025 title bid? Or will they shift focus towards developing the car around Lawson, following Mercedes' approach in 2024?
First Redbull will have to decide if Lawson is the driver to replace Max with (depends on his performance). If he doesn't perform then they'll get the chequebook out. Max might decide to stick around for '26 to see which power units are the best. I don't think money will be the deciding factor for Max, he wants to win.
The Power Unit Redbull use in '26 will determine if they are in the title fight or not. With or without Max.Jurgen von Diaz wrote: ↑19 Jan 2025, 17:03If Verstappen is leaving, the car is not capable of a title fight.nitrotech wrote:If Max chooses to leave the team for Aston Martin in 2026, will the team fully back his 2025 title bid? It doesn't help they have publicly told Lawson to NEVER even attempt to challenge Max. So seeing his true performance will be hard to assess unless Lawson breaks protocol once in a while, which could cause Max to get very grumpy on the radio.taperoo2k wrote: ↑19 Jan 2025, 17:06First Redbull will have to decide if Lawson is the driver to replace Max with (depends on his performance). If they want a Max replacement waiting in the wings, that's not the way to go about it. I hope Lawson takes chances when they present themselves, rather than second guessing. Max might not be happy in any case, given Lawson should be a big step up from Perez and be more of a challenge.zeroday wrote: ↑19 Jan 2025, 22:54It doesn't help they have publicly told Lawson to NEVER even attempt to challenge Max. There is absolutely no indication of any of this, nothing. The guy doesn't even have a full season in F1. He is a complete unknown.taperoo2k wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 17:25If they want a Max replacement waiting in the wings, that's not the way to go about it. Ric got Max under control for two season,Max gets rookies for competition and not a true competitor who may get off the shine on that image.he got perez a guy known for tire saving.i dont believe redbull where serious when they said they wanted norries to be his teammate.he is the first to get updates so his teamates are always chasing a moving target.Cs98 wrote: ↑21 Jan 2025, 00:35There is no Verstappen replacement, anywhere. Those aren't produced on a conveyor belt. Lawson's job is to survive, something which has proven very difficult with Verstappen as your reference. Ricciardo, Gasly, Albon, and Perez all got ground down over time as they realised they weren't getting closer, rather the gap was getting bigger. If Lawson comes in thinking (even subconsciously) "I'm going to keep up with Max", he will get crushed as well. The expectations are clear, be better than Perez. If he can be that he can stay and hopefully build himself over time.
Ric never had Max under control. Max showed up and won the first race. Sure Ric got the better of him here or there, but overall Max drove away on raceday from Ric. The renault PU which was hugely unreliable tended to fail alot more for Max in big point hauls, making the scoreboard seem alot closer then it actually was. There is a reason Ric bailed with the tail between his legs to Renault.Bill wrote: ↑21 Jan 2025, 18:09Ric got Max under control for two season,Max gets rookies for competition and not a true competitor who may get off the shine on that image.he got perez a guy known for tire saving.i dont believe redbull where serious when they said they wanted norries to be his teammate.he is the first to get updates so his teamates are always chasing a moving target.Cs98 wrote: ↑21 Jan 2025, 00:35There is no Verstappen replacement, anywhere.
