Haha, don’t worry I contemplated whether to post it or not because I’m so tired.
Basically in my opinion if there is a pecking order to attract a new sponsor it’s probably 1) Red Bull, 2) Ferrari, because of Hamilton, 3) McLaren/ Mercedes
Wrong Ferrari and Mercedes by far are the richest in revenue and net profit. McLaren and redbull are not close at all.. McLaren still doesn't have a title sponsor like merc redbull and Ferrari..
I totally agree.
My pecking order is for attracting a potential new sponsor not how much sponsorship income they have
Yeah and it's fair, we haven't been in the conversation at the front end for a along time and we aren't Ferrari, who will always be a massive name through thick and thin.
We probably are around Mercedes territory now, although recent deals may relate more to the sponsorship size itself then any decline in rates, if that makes sense.
I suppose, if I was looking at sponsoring Mclaren, I'd consider how long they might be around at the front for, and like any team, it could all get mixed up in 26 no matter how good next year is. Perhaps we won't get the proper numbers until we start well in the new regs.
In any case, we have enough money now. The teams debts are not in need of urgent repayment and we aren't looking to sign a £40m driver or Adrian Newey, so it's just a case of making small profits, and paying off some debts each year. We are in a good spot even if we could squirrel away some savings and make the shareholders a bit richer.
On another note, the automotive team had a good H1 of 2024 with 27% order growth and 50% revenue increase and a loss of 54m for the half year. This should continue to improve and if it does, they might find profit in FY25 or FY26.
It's of tangential interest to the racing function, but still of interest I suspect.
Edit: Nope, the group has no shareholding in Automotive at all and automotive has no shareholding in Racing. From a legal entity standpoint, they are totally seperate.
