Think it’s clear F1 doesn’t want the same constructor winning titles back to back. They near enough admit it in their press statement citing: ‘fair and exciting racing’

I think it’s clear Redbull are running scared… and have been lobbying the FIA hard

Well McLaren won’t be considered favourites anymore now they are clamping down on the flexi front wings.

If the flexing front wing was what really gave them the advantage, then they wouldn’t be favourites anyway since the rest of the top teams would be using them to the same extent McLaren used it in 2024 …

Relax, it’s just an over-abused gimmick. If McLaren is not fighting at the front this year, it will be because they get out developed, not because the FIA took away the flexing front wing.

As long as they don't bend the rules in favor of another team then everything will be ok.

Agreed.

One could speculate that it might even be beneficial to McLaren. If other teams invested in developing their flexi wings for 2025, they have lost that performance now. It is unlikely a second season flexi wing (McLaren) can bring as much additional performance as an initial implementation which is what most teams would have worked on during the winter.

But hopefully, the team isn't too affected by this.

I’ve thought about it some more and really it’s a hinderance to all the top teams. Surely they would have developed their ‘25 car with a flexi front wing.
We can imagine now that teams are going to have to bring an upgrade to Spain to work with a less flexible front wing if the want to compete at the front/ challenge for a title(s)

I think the only teams who will benefit the most are the ones who sack the 2025 season off and start development on their 2026 car earlier.

This U-turn will draw the top 4 teams into spending more of their resources on the 2025 season.

They're giving teams until 9 grand prix in. Last season the championship was decided in the first 5 races essentially. Chill out!

The Race says that the intention was to introduce the tests for the start of '25 but pushed it back to Spain to give extra time to the teams after there was pushback from some (eg Merc) . Given that the timeline was initially more expedited, it's highly likely that the teams have known for a while that this TD was coming

The U-turn is frustrating but at this point all teams have been developing their 2025 cars with intention to fully abuse/use the flexible wings to the limit. So I don't think it will hurt McLaren more than others anymore like it would've done mid-2024

Plot twist: McLaren were the ones pushing the hardest for this TD to pass.
Can't make this sh!t up.

Goes to show what a good place McLaren’s in the fact the team pushed for the directive when everyone thought they were exploiting the flexi wings in the first place

I’ve not seen anything that suggests Mclaren are in favour for the directive, could someone provide a source?

If this is all true, then I like this kind of determination from McLaren, I haven't seen anything like this for a long time.

Or, they just tried to waste rival's development time (and apparently succeeded). RedBull already has complained about the directive, because they invested resources into making it work on the RB21.
