In the last year of regulations gaining 0.4 seconds is solid I would say. Remember how hard it was e.g. for Red Bull to find any gains last season. Besides the McLaren Miami update I can't remember any update that moved a team significantly forwards from one race to the other. It's all a process over weeks and months.

I also think keeping the good characteristics in the car is equally valuable than just net time gain in the simulator. Having a big setup operating window, taking curbs as smooth as possible or good tire saving behavior can also win the championship this year.

I really hope FER can retain all these strengths and maybe make the tire warm-up at colder tracks a little better. Than this car can be a championship challenger.

That's primarily because the SF23 was not a good car and they had obvious areas of improvement. The SF24 delivered on that while introducing very few compromises.

Once Ferrari fixed the balance with the Monza floor upgrade last year, the SF24 was a really competitive car. There wasn't any track, except for Singapore, where Ferrari lacked anything significant to McLaren after Monza. And Singapore was kind of self-inflicted. I think Charles at least would have been close to Lando's racepace.

The less you have to improve on, the harder it becomes to make the big jumps. Ferrari had a tire warmup issue last year, but how much of it came as a downside of having really good (perhaps the best) tire wear in the race? You have to be careful when choosing your compromises, you wouldn't want to tip the scales on the other side.

A car which qualifies well but absolutely demolishes tires is useless when it comes to the championship battle. The SF90 proved that.

I feel Ferrari need 1 sec over others for them to win championship without giving me heart attack. yes, they were competitive last season, but almost all there win I had to hold my breath until the end it didn't feel easy... and ironically only time i felt very relaxed and enjoyed the race was like Canada where our boys both dnf and i could just sit back relax and enjoy lol.

4 tenths is an ok gain. The most important thing this year will be balance. A balanced car brings time gains purely from driver confidence and giving them the ability to attack corners.

If the simulator says they found 1 second but the extra downforce introduces, say, severe balance issues - then it's useless as the time potential cannot be realised from the drivers due to their driving style and track conditions being different. Only a robot could drive it.

It's much better to have less ultimate performance and have a car which is balanced and drive able. Newey knew this back in 2022 and red bull had the benefits until last year.

If you want to experience this, play a racing simulator. Take a slower car and put a decent setup on it - it's drivable and easier to extract time from. Take a faster car and give it a crap setup - the extra time is there but impossible to exploit consistently.

This is a simplified explanation - setup windows and tyres will also apply. But this figure doesn't worry me - I'll only be worried if they turn up with a car with a crap balance

Unfortunately I don't see any chance of 2025 wins being less stressful than Austin last year

Good luck

0.4 is good if they were on par with McLaren at the end of last season but that was not the case

I mean they were close to McLaren in Abu Dhabi, behind in Qatar, ahead in Vegas, behind in Brazil, close in Mexico, and ahead in Austin. I'd say you could argue they were on par with McLaren over the last 25% of the season even if it is debatable.

It's too close to say they weren't. Slight set up errors or a tiny track condition change can mean being 0.2 slower or faster when it's this close

How on earth are all of you just taking this 4 tenths claim as gospel, even without any source given at all?

Is media literacy genuinely just dead as a concept nowadays? It's like 99% of people online are just pure reactionaries.

Also no, 4 tenths would not be enough to take the lead. That'd be lucky to even remain competitive on some tracks. People are really underestimating the gains that will be made. 2020 was supposed to be the last year of those regulations, yet we get 2021 added onto that and teams made bigger progress than just 4 tenths.

The source I think was corriere.it :

Also, I believe you're missremembering. The 2021 cars were much slower on average than 2020 cars because of the regulations related to the floor cutout. In general, development was pretty minimal, with pretty much every single team carrying over their concept. The token system also limited development significantly so teams had to choose carefully what exactly to develop.

So yeah, the 2021 cars had very minor differences compared to 2020. They got slower because the FIA cut off the floors and the pecking order changed primarily because the floor change benefited some concepts and hurt others. Also, Power Unit gains.

Listening to the Race and they said the teams can't have livery out before the london event. This isn't official but you'd assume Ferrari would know their would be some keen eye photographers lurking.

Hopefully not or else HP better be paying for the car.

Giving SF16-H vibes with the white, but I can't say I hate it. A pure red Ferrari objectively would look better though.

Horrible white patch, but it is what it is.
