McLaren MCL39

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'm curious about this double metal stay that go from the gearbox structure into the sidepod and then down to the floor. I wonder why they have gone to a double.

Correct me if I’m wrong but is that a new edge wing on the floor?

McLaren really went the long yard on that suspension, both front and rear.

There is a stay by the lower front wishbone that goes from behind by the monocoque to the front by the wheel carrier. Is that the rear leg of the lower wishbone or a crazy steering arm?

Looks like larger transition radii rounding off the sides of the diffuser kicks

Hazard a guess at weight savings. The floor layup might be quite thin, and the risk is it flapping under speed.

Everything about this car looks extreme. And well thought out too.
