This forum contains threads to discuss teams themselves. Anything not technical about the cars, including restructuring, performances etc belongs here.
Will Joseph (Lando's race eng) talks far too much IMO.
They have a relationship where I am sure Lando will say shut up if it’s too much.
Lando has said multiple times he wants it this way.
Some of the radio stuff from Ferrari lately has sounded frankly pathetic. Carlos wouldn't have copped it.
The issue some of us have with the Lando/Will partnership is decisiveness. It was found wanting last year, particularly in Silverstone where a win was thrown away but there were other times.... We need to draw a larger sample for 2025 to see if it is on a much better path. I think there is greater potential in the Piastri/Stallard partnership as they keep it simple and factual with a lack of emotional baggage. As a loyal McLaren fan it's hard to root for one driver over another. Lando is very talented and quick, Oscar is very talented and strong minded. Fascinating battle ahead, I hope both come out of 2025 with their heads held high, as unlikely as that may sound.
I don't really have an issue with being descriptive in the team radio, but I do think sometimes it is too much. Giving update to the driver about potential level 1 rain for 1-2 laps about 20 laps away seems totally unnecessary. That amount of rain is too low and it is too unpredictable. But I guess Lando wants to be kept in the loop as much as possible so we get full weather updates.
Decisiveness is also a potential problem. It does look like Lando wants to have plenty of say in decisions, which can obviously be very problematic as he can't get all the data and understanding of the situation from the inside of the car. I feel that with time as they start to get more experience at the front he will start to trust the team more and then engineer will be able to be more decisive.
In Australia we also saw how even Max was undecisive, he would have went on inters once again if he wasn't told that everyone else is switching to slicks.
Tomorrow I hope we are gonna continue the good trajectory or having the best car overall. Rain is expected for Sunday so there it's gonna be another hard weekend. Our drivers must give it their all.
Skimmed the BBC page for practice. Seems Lando struggling with the car again, but fast when it comes together. Seemingly a theme. Luckily more practice sessions to dial it in though.
They both looked better in FP2, all things considered. I'm not entirely sure, I didn't see a mistake from Lando in sector 3, so I felt he lifted a bit. Prior to that he was on a pretty quick lap, looked like he would have been P1.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

I know he was behind Oscar but I may have seen a car in between them? He was well up going in S3. I assumed mistake initially.

No mistake he lifted, he was 0.5 up before he aborted the lap.
So far so good, fingers crossed it stays the same trough the weekend as well.
He had some offs in FP1, including Casio triangle, and he was struggling with the handling somewhat, but FP2 was better though they didn't get many laps in, so it's hard to say the issues persisted OR that they went away. FP1 will include a lot of setup work and many drivers will have issues so he may well be in the clear.
All of the braking zones look good here, we've gone back to Australia level in comparison with other teams so on face value we should struggle a bit less. A quick look at the telemetry suggests that Oscar is mighty on the exit of spoon. He also looks a little slower on the straights, so I'd venture they went with a setup for Oscar with a bit more downforce that looks to work a bit better here and I'm sure that being the case, Lando will take those extra points of DF and be happy. Lando is looking strong in Casio and getting a better exit to the home straight. You won't see it affect Q so much but in the race he'll see an advantage.
