Decidedly fourth fastest team this weekend in the race ultimately. As others have alluded to, I think they went for quali pace over race pace.

Goodness, did George have a bad set of C3's because that's not a good. #-o

That would indicate that his tyres were already falling off a cliff before Norris overtook him.

The lack of not long runs caught us I think. We move to Miami. 🐜 🐍

It is strange because this car is good on the C3s.

I do t think there is anything to worry about with George. His pace fell off after he got overtaken by leclerc. There was no threat from behind and no possibility to go forward so he took a siesta and brought it home. Kimi was also going very slow until Hamilton got close to 2 sec then he upped his pace. My point is that if Russell’s position was under threat he would and could have gone faster.

The tires were finished.

"We've had a good run so far, but today was a very bad day as a team," Russell agrees. "Nevertheless, we can learn something from it - because we didn't expect so much competitiveness in Bahrain and today we did. It shows that there is pace in the car, but today it was all about the tyres - and we didn't manage that."

That was exactly the crux of the matter from Mercedes' point of view: the tyres. "The pace simply collapsed - because of blisters and overheated tyres," says Wolff, without having a precise explanation ready.

"I pushed hard at the beginning of the second stint to stay with Max [Verstappen], but I knew I couldn't keep it up for long," Russell recounts. "In the end, we fell over this cliff - in the last 15 laps I lost one second per lap."

The difficulties were so serious that Russell even asked the team on the radio if there were any concerns about durability: "The left front tyre doesn't look good," he radioed, wanting to know if the tyre would last until the finish. "I have a ligament on my inner shoulder, and it opens."

No real surprise. That move was talked about here last season. Would be stupid for George not to look at all the offers on the table. If he is thrown away by ruthless Toto, who’s got history with getting rid of British drivers, then I’d be looking at Aston, before I think about joining the sinking ship, that is, RB.
