Regarding the straights, shouldn't the whole laptime be taken into account? We don't know how they are using the deployment and we don't know how much fuel each team uses. In theory, you just do what the simulations say is best. So maybe carrying less fuel and using less engine power is more optimal then carrying more and using more engine power). There are tradeoffs. If you use more power, you need more fuel. If you have more fuel, you are marginally harder on the tires and marginally slower in the corners and braking phases. Each team has its own optimal solution. Overall, despite how much faster Mclaren may have been in a specific part of the race on the straights, it didn't make any impression against Max in the 1st stint. Even with DRS, they were never close to him.
Nah, this amount of advantage is too much for any such shenanigans. I don't believe the whole fuel point stands, there's not all that much discrepancy in the amount of fuel carried by the teams, not in a low deg flatout race such as saudi. And you would never not use full engine power that you at all can, it's always better to carry some more litres, I'm 100% sure all teams are using this tactic. There was no reason not to push the engine flat out.

Honestly, i dont understand why the car was so slow this race on full throttle sections. There seems to be a struggle in both early acceleration and even in energy deployment which is usually honda's strong point, but not this time.
Yeah, you might be right, I also checked it across multiple other laps, RB21 loses on non drs sections too, but was equal or faster in qualy in all straights. In Suzuka for comparison the deltas were the same in the race as they were in qualy, so no weird drop off during the race compared to MCL.

I think RB ran with slightly less cooling and therefore couldn't run the engine on full tilt on a more consistent basis as compared to the MCL. I heard this from GP too, he at one point gave MAX more speed on the straights but a worse turn 22 I think and MAX didn't like it so they reverted to the previous mode.

Proper analysis from you, Vanja !

Personally I really care more about the fact the RBR could well follow the McL, but I agree with the issue of the FIA inconsistency and dumb/blunt reasoning.

Nice analysis Vanja.

The overhead shot is the absolute killer for the penalty being absolute rubbish.

I’m not surprised that Max was furious after MBS addressed him after the race. No doubt he silenced Max from making any comment on the stewards decision.
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Apparently Max was even censored for saying 'bloody lovely' after the penalty was given...

I hope Red Bull calls for the right to review. Not to somehow to reverse the result of the race, but to make clear what is allowed and what not.

right of review is pointless for clearing what is allowed and what not because before getting to that point of merit, you need to show new evidence for the case, which is always a fail for the requester

after reading Vanja's thread, I think the episode is not clear cut as I thought previously, especially the part of Max braking before Oscar, that's a relevant factor in the episode, but sadly now there is nothing you can do. Still I expect Max to do some fireworks in similar situations in the future, he won't let it go.

"We were surprised, but positively surprised," Marko said afterwards in the paddock of Jeddah about the race pace. "Compared to Bahrain, we have made a lot of progress, although this circuit also suits us better. Here you have a lot more fast corners and different asphalt, which helped us," Marko acknowledges
"We are making steps and trying to make the car more predictable. We are also working on giving the car a larger window." "We are taking small steps. "I think we should be in a position around Imola where we have the speed to beat the McLarens," Marko said quite optimistically
"Well, fortunately the race is not around lunch and normally the sun goes down. We have to see how it goes there and if we can find more performance, but I normally think we can be competitive there as well."
Finally, some optimism, the upgrades looked like they worked which is hopefully giving the team more confidence that the step by step updates in MIA and IMO are going to work too.

Horner has already explained that Red Bull did not know how to find that in Bahrain, making the picture look particularly bad, and that the optimal window prior to qualifying in Jeddah has been found for that circuit.
Also, this quote from Horner was interesting, it was just 1 track in JED but the correlation/setup was good for the 1st time in a long time, the team wasn't lost in FP1 and FP2.

Amazing analysis that completely destroys all the rubbish being said about this. Get ready for Verstappen to do this consistently now, can't wait to hear the reasoning if they then punish him.

I missed the last half of the race. Sounds like it got closer?
He was a little faster at the end. From 4.8 to 2.8 in the last 5 laps.
I am really unsure. There just was no use for a gap at the end so Piastry might have just played it smart and took no risk. Even Vestappen conceded some of his gap at certain races previous years.

There is just little point in wallhugging or curb smashing with aging tyres when the win is obvious. Georges tyres fell of a cliff and even desintegrated. Piastry may have just played it safe. Destroying your tires with 2 Laps to go is a sore loss.

Piastri got held up by the back runners based on what he said on his broadcasted radio (didn't check his onboard), then the gap dropped from high 4s to low 3s

I have to change my stance from Max was wrong to Max was robbed I guess :D. Clever by Oscar but he got lucky only because stewards are dumb. Disappointing to have lost 7 points over this.

14 points if you consider Oscar as his main rival, which seems very likely at this point.
Max would lead the WDC if he can hold his position.

Will upgrades come in Miami or only Imola ? I've seen different indications so far.

Same. I think it's expected that there are parts in both but the aero upgrades are primarily brought @ Imola.

Yeah good catch. It was a 14 point swing.
