Williams replace Toyota with Cosworth engines for 2010

Then why has the FIA opened the door, once again, for the teams to review (limit or 'equalize') the mercedes engine inline with the other engines, whatever that means.
They either have an 'illegal' engine (for lack of a better word) or not. If not, why has the FIA opened this up again?

The teams agree to certain updates for engines on reliability grounds. When proven.
They all have the same ability to modify the engines but some do it better. It's the nature of competition...

Maybe they should add a Kg to each car for every HP over 750 they are...and remove them for being under 750...and stick them on a dyno at every GP lol

The FIA did not open it up again... it was some of the teams that were complaining(just like the first time with Renault & Honda)... the solution that the FIA suggested was that if the teams agree(why Merc would ever agree is beyond me) they can put in place a way to equalize the engines but only by reigning in the most powerful ones, rather than giving the weaker ones more development time(and thus money). COST CUTTING

Please, Please read the original reports closely... it is all in plain sight, and in clear laguauge... I dont understand why so many on this board choose to ignore what is clearly in front of them and then blame the FIA for all the decisions that are made by the teams.

Read carefully it is the teams who are asking for equalization, not the FIA, the FIA merely says that if the teams want equalization it can be done if they can agree to it unanimously, but only by restricting the powerful units, not by spending million to upgrade the weak ones.

Sir Frank Williams has confirmed speculation that his Grove based team will switch to Cosworth power for the 2010 season.

"We've finished our contract with Toyota and we've moved on to a British engine manufacturer Cosworth with whom we have won many world championships in the past," the Briton told the local Gulf News in Abu Dhabi.

Amid speculation he might have linked up with Renault, Williams said the choice is a "more private and independent route" than staying with a carmaker.

"They (Cosworth) are 50 miles away from Williams which is very convenient. Besides we also like our independence. We will be not under the influence, not that Toyota ever bossed around, but we've just gone a private and independent route," he explained.

Williams, 67, also confirmed speculation that his team's current lead driver Nico Rosberg will be powered by a Mercedes engine next year.

"Nico is German and Mercedes need at least one German driver to sit before their engine," he said.

"So we will announce our drivers for next season on Monday."

So the story is true. Williams will use Cosworth and Nico was hired by Merc some weeks ago. I see it likely that Merc places him at Brawn. Probably (80% chance IMO) McLaren will not drop the three pointed star next year.

Of course Barichello is indeed on a switch to Williams and Brawn will not want to change both drivers. Button will soon stop the haggling and announce his Brawn deal. All the independant and neigborhood talk is bull manure IMO. Williams must have inside knowledge of the Cosworth potential.

Read Bull will go Cosworth as well if McLaren decide to stay put. If they break up with Merc RBR will snap up the engines.
