Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

pardon my ignorance, whats a paint buck?

Dead Zone sounds like somewhere where the air stalls.. separation of air behind the vehicle/aero parts and the control of it.. hmm uneducated guesses. i'm not the one to expand upon this further in F1 aero terms.. #-o

Or perhaps somewhere you end up when entering warp-speed?

whatever that dead zone is, the teams are aware of it and we are just plain ignorants! otherwise goony wouldn't be talking about it. :D:D

Anyway, I'm left wondering how much of the diffuser was made in a rush and how much it can be optimised. And considering the amount of effort and reinvention that went into it, there's probably more than a simple downforce excercise, well beyond the fact that it's very integrated in the car's bottom.

What's the point of a wing without air-movement? For sponsors only?

Strict regulations that force you to have it? They could theoretically do away with the rear wing, couldn't they (Not at all suggesting that this is the case).

The next question is how that can be an advantage? Aren't they hunting for down force? So how is a zero zone going to help that?

If the diffusor creates enough DF to run a flat rear wing on the average track that would make sense. But wouldn't the diffusor then need something like the adjustable wing to adapt downforce to low DF circuits?

Sorry about that one WB, I'm only fooling around. This thread is just to much at times, right now for xample.

Don't you think they hadn't all early signs that MP4/24 would be a good car back then? Let's wait before MP4/25 hits the track.

Dead zone, i think i have idea, but i don't want to compromise Mclaren's new car. I gave them the solution to getting back on track last year by cutting off those ugly exhaust stacks. Don't want to have to do it again next year. :P
This should be kept under wraps till 3/4 way through the next season.
For Sure!!
