Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It seems a little harsh to criticise.

Sorry to be so confrontational in a forum post, but I felt it was neccassary. I myself asked him about the medical scheme they have there and feel a bit guilty!
Yep completely agree. The bloke's been a good sport and given us a brief insight into an F1 team. i can't believe fans of F1 on here are now upset at him for that.

and deus, nothing to be guilty about, it is a forum to ask questions on, and it is a forum of adults who decide on their own whether to answer or not.
how much goony's answers had to do with his employment only McLaren, and possibly himself, will ever know. the rest is speculation.

Hey, goony, we all make mistakes. As has been said before, your posts have led to some interesting speculation on next years car and this years which we wouldn't have had otherwise.

I think F1 is a very forgive and forget industry, so I hope you are not out of work for long.

Some people on this forum are too harsh.. Goony let us in on something most of us will never get close to. Ok, it was a mistake on his part but it was interesting and a nice change from button-bashing/hamilton bashing/general bitching.

Thankyou goony and I hope you find another job soon.

He hasn't really told us anything from the posts I've seen. Mastering something like a 'Dead Zone' is hideously complex, and I'm rather sceptical you could do it in anything like a passive manner - to put it mildly. If you don't test an avenue of research like that thoroughly, and I don't mean just with CFD and wind tunnels, then you might as well throw a parachute out the back of the car. It's a big risk when there is so little testing allowed.

Having said that, considering how unbelievably fast the Red Bulls were through the corners at Abu Dhabi with KERS being the only thing to artificially inflate McLaren, then they and other teams need something............

The Dead Zone? Get over it, I think goony was just a troll working at Pizza Xpress, who had us all for a while.

He's probably having a good laugh about it at the pub as we speak.

If that's his idea of a joke, I doubt anyone will want to spend time in a pub with him...

I have to say that xpensive is as obnoxious as they come in forums. It's a forum for goodness sake.....a forum for sharing and discussing technology. Humor only comes in good taste. If Goony's plight is one that makes you laugh, I wonder whatelse does. It's an unfortunate situation for both mclaren and him. It's that simple.

actually I do not really care if goony is working for pizza express or MCL.At this point I have not the impression he´s trying to pretend being a laminator.
On the other hand I have actually seen guys doing carbonfibre work who would have been wiser to start working for Pizza Express ...as a delivery guy, NOT as a cook ,of course.

i don't care either who goony is or not is all good.

anyway i have noticed the last years mclaren has a very good front end, i am thinking with reduction of front tyres width, would this have to be designed to compensate for loss of grip at the front? or would it all be COG shift/set-up or something else to compensate for front tyre reduction?

Mclarens have been pretty good with mechanical grip for a number of years, hence the good pace at Monaco and tracks where a car needs to be good over the kerbs (Canada, Monza). I would imagine this is more inherent to something in the suspension (inerter??) and not C.O.G. but I dont know.
