Just a quick question. Sorry for being off-topic.
Now that Mercedes and Mclaren are parting ways, will some of Mclaren sponsors leave for Mercedes GP? How would that impact Mclaren?
Mobil supplies all 3 teams with Mercedes engines, and i did hear rumblings their on-car signage will follow the Merc team, whether they stay visible on McLaren hasn't been mentioned though.

I'd guess sponsors sign with the team, rather than the engine manufacturer anyway.

Some people found it strange Mclaren found what goony was upto but they have lots of people who scour the web for mention of Mclaren, there are 2 people who,s full time job is searching for items turning up on internet auction sites (this even includes road car parts/brochures that the public "shouldnt" have)
Soon as contact is made if you dont hand it back or agree too there is a fair chance you will have a motorbike courier on your doorstep with legal papers later the same day

That's a very precise statement. Is that a fact? How do you know?

There are quite a few guys on here that work for F1 teams, so it wouldn't be surprising if 'polarboy' did too.

Mobile does not supply any teams with engines. They supply the oil for the engines. Also you would think that Mobil would be the engine manufactures sponsor as Mercedes uses Mobil. I am sure STR use Shell oil. The oil follows the engines not the teams.

I think that's what he meant; that Mobil supplies all three teams that use Mercedes engines.

 wow, i didnt even think my sentence could be read in any other way! apologies for the potential double entendre!

As a technical partner/supplier, yes, but as a sponsor, that's different.

Mercedes & Mobil were suppliers to BrawnGP, but there were no sponsorship agreements (just like your relevant example of STR & Shell). Yet McLaren had a sponsorship agreement with both Merc & Mobil (1 making engines, the other oil & fuel.. just don't ask me which one does what! haha)

Been in f1 26 years (but never worked at woking)an know several of the dealers who trade f1 stuff, some more public than others. One of those dealers sold an item on ebay that he had bought at a charity auction an got the whole "legal" force of mclaren etc at which point he phoned Mclaren an spoke to mr Whitmarsh an pointed out that he an the Mclaren team might like to check out where the charity auction had got the item from in the 1st place-a mr R Dennis
Another of my friends told me off an i saw the messages from the 2 ebay accounts that come from woking, hell even the Hugo boss t shirts they sell have "not for resale" on them
Dont belive me ? get a picture of a Mclaren part an list it on ebay with a 99p start (so it wont cost you anything an you can axe the add after a couple of days) an within 48hrs you will have contact with Woking !

So how about that "dead zone"? :D

I would suspect that it's an idea at least explored by other team as it's similar to the idea of Ferrari's flexing wings before rules were adjusted to make them unrealistic.

The only thing, is a wings flex/speed is predictable. If everyone ideas about how this dead zone would function are remotely correct, then how would one go about controlling it's effect.

Or how would one turn off the "dead zone" during a high speed turn?

Then if there is one "dead zone" why not multiple zones? or why not a "near dead" zone?

If this is achieved and controlled, this could be a step to some really really advanced aero-mechanics all with immobile surfaces?

It's likely that it doesn't exist. Or is something so subtle, we won't even notice it if it was staring us in the face. But I can't really see it as anything as advantageous as the DDD.
I had a dream a couple weeks ago, after all the dead zone discussion when goony was on. In the dream the Mclaren Mp4 25 was white and orange; but the weirdest thing was that the diffuser was rotating about the longitudinal axis when the car was in the turns. :? Kinda like those birds of prey who use their tails like a rudder.
Moving aero is illegal anyway but it was an interesting interpretation by my dream.

Cool image though :) It is really quite amazing what our minds do when they are free in a dream state.

When crows come swooping down, they glide across the ground and you can see their tail feathers acting like a diffuser almost, just an inch or so, but you can tell they are controlling those forces interacting with the ground.

The idea of a diffuser that rotates to stay perpendicular to the ground while the car pitches and heaves would partially have the same effect as active suspension, but not nearly as dangerous as traditional setups where the car can suddenly bottom and skate.

the front wing could be configured to do the same.

You should contract your unconscious state somehow to do your conceptualizing.
