A very popular Russian f1 news website are spreading rumours that USF1 asked FIA if the team could start the season as late as at Spanish GP.

Not sure I put much stock in that. If anything Lotus seems to be the worse off at this point since they are already skipping testing, or Campos that are trying to sell the team (funny how people thought that was what USF1 meant to do).

They are planning on testing in parallel to the testing at Jerez and then traveling to Europe probably for the second test, so long as their European base is constructed.

Regardless of sentiments, I think the FIA will have to make one or two uncomfortable calls over the coming weeks.

Agreed. Anybody know if Virgin is planning on testing the first week of February? I don't remember seeing anything from Wirth about that in the news.

16.2 Frontal test :
All parts which could materially affect the outcome of the test must be fitted to the test structure which must be solidly fixed to the trolley through its engine mounting points but not in such a way as to increase its impact resistance.
The fuel tank must be fitted and must be full of water. A dummy weighing at least 75kg must be fitted with safety belts described in Article 14.4 fastened.
However, with the safety belts unfastened, the dummy must be able to move forwards freely in the cockpit. The extinguishers, as described in Article 14.1 must also be fitted. For the purposes of this test, the total weight of the trolley and test structure shall be 780kg (+1%/-0) and the velocity of impact not less than 15 metres/second. The resistance of the test structure must be such that during the impact :
- the peak deceleration over the first 150mm of deformation does not exceed 10g ;
- the peak deceleration over the first 60kJ energy absorption does not exceed 20g ;
- the average deceleration of the trolley does not exceed 40g ;
- the peak deceleration in the chest of the dummy does not exceed 60g for more than a cumulative 3ms, this being the resultant of data from three axes.

My comments:
* 780 kg at 15 m/s has 87.75 kJ of energy.
* From 15 m/s to zero over one meter is an average 11.5 g.
* 10 g de-accelleration over 150 mm means going from 15 m/s to 14 m/s.

My interpretation is that doing away with more than 60 kJ (70%) of the energy before the "bump", is the trick here?

"there is a suggestion in Gazzetta that USF1 has applied to the FIA for a derogation to miss the early fly away races and start at the Spanish Grand Prix in April. This contradicts USF1 sporting director Peter Windsor’s assertion last week that the team will definitely be in Bahrain. It’s Sunday today, but I will follow this up when the offices open on Monday."

James Allen wrote the above at the bottom of this article, suggesting that it came from Italian La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

This is what everyone was fearing!!! The little guys not having enough in-em to make it to the grid.

I do not understand this .
wasn´t it one of the main issues and deciding factors when applying for a spot in the F1 field that funding and a sound business plan was in place ???
we are not talking about mega million start off expenditures anymore ,are we?

Well marcush, there were three spots to apply for and as already been discussed many times on other threads on F1T,
there were also criterias other than business and economy in the mix. Making it look good on paper is the easy part.

from Noble's Twitter
US F1 tells me it is on course to be in Bahrain - so ignore reports from Italy claiming it asked the FIA if it could skip the first races

I think it is just the usual EuroTrash bagging an American operation! [-X

imo if they weren't serious and on track they wouldn't have been able to sign John Anderson as Team Manager! (no relation to Ken)

Actually revelling in it.

The will for them to fail is what is so crazy. The sheer hatred. As I point out about every 5 pages.

I see no joy in others failure.

Who is this "John Anderson" anyway, never heard of him actually, there's nothing on USF1 website either?

Anyway, they now have a "Team principal", a "Sporting director", a "Corporate strategist" and a "Team manager"?

Next on the list will be the 'Principal Manager' and 'Strategy Director'.

John Anderson is Australian although his most notable work has been in American motorsport.
