We NEED TO HAVE a F1 technical CAR CFD test competition! Get all the User made cars together and test them using the same boundary conditions. All these cars have to be good for something!!

this would be a gr8 idea; would spice up F1T.....

Mods, would you kindly give a thought?

The problem is that none of us know exactly how big the internal components have to be, or how big radiator/engine inlets/outlets need to be... so it would be easy to lean on the side of "small" and therefore improve the aero efficiency... in reality the car might not work (due to over-heating etc) and therefore any comparison would be unfair UNLESS we all agreed before hand how big to make the inlets etc, then we could all design around the same set of dimensions.... then a CFD comparison might be a bit more meaningful....

I did have my 3D model from last year put through a CFD program... can't remember what page I posted the pics on now...

Yeah i think thats a really good idea, and i suppose we could all agree on a certain area for the cooling inlets and outlets

We'd also need to agree on certain cross-sectional areas.... e.g. to allow for equally sized radiators/engine/gearbox etc.

....then we need someone to actually run the CFD... last year someone kindly did it for me, but not sure if someone would like to do the same again for lots of different models... especially if they're in different formats......

But what i notice(or it is just me) is that everyone who shows his car here has pretty big sidepods at the rear.
Yeah I thought that and now I think the nose looks out of proportion.

Still, mightily impressive.

I agree to some degree; the sidepods are only a guess as to what size is required (obviously as I don't have access to the required heat rejection figures!!!)

.... the nose conforms to the rules, and I agree is rather short compared to say the Ferrari... it is of the Toyota persuasion!

F1technical car CFD test competition sounds really interestingly
I am definitely in!!!
I think first thing is to find someone who can do all the analyses

if somebody can be found i will be in too(if my car can be converted lol), i would love to see the good and bad spots of my car.

Have you seen LegendaryM's Diffuser? I must say I really like the way he has extended the "shadow plate" further forward of the rear wheel centre-line. Allowing him to reduce the steepness of the upper deck of his double deck diffuser.....

It would be also good if we could all agree on the basic sizes for inlets and outlets etc... then even if we can't get any CFD done, at least it will be easier to make a visual comparison between the cars.....

Ok lets make it happen
I think its fair to take the average dimensions fo all cars.
Also I think ride height should be fixed.

In this thread it seems that F1 technical is going to the next step, looking at the basic things that define the basics of a cars aero. :)
With this in mind, I think that another thing that could be interesting is doing CFD analysis to a basic car and then looking at the effects that some new parts could have to this basic car, because with all the car parts at once i think it's difficult to see the effect of the complex shapes in the car.
Just an observation, and thanks to everyone who try to design these cars, your work is great! :D
By the way, your car rocks machin!

I totally agree that this would be the way forward if you were designing a real car... what I've done here is kept things quite simple (like my front wing for instance) my model represents what I would do as my inital wind-tunnel model... i.e. get the basics about right and work out the details later.... the finer details only work if you know exactly where the air is flowing... without knowing you could easily make a mess of things.. better to keep it simple and start from there!
