Renault R30

From the old news it seemed they were pretty sure it would work, so wanted to hold until the first race to debut it... I wonder then why now they introduce it on the first day of testing.

Maybe it's really no good and it's all a trick to get people to design w wings in vain! :o

the scale seems to get out of whack toward the front, but it's still considerably shorter than the f10...

Maybe the Renault really is very efficient, meaning the fuel tank can be so much smaller.

I guess we'll know when we see the RB6... I'm guessing it will also be relatively short wheelbase.

If the length published by Renault is right this makes the Ferrari 5.45m long!

Re: Renault R30

is this difference down to the smaller fuel tank Renault has made for their "efficient" engine compared to others??

I have a feeling Ferrari launched their car on 2009 spec tyres giving the illusion that the front of the car is not the same scale as the Renault when actually it is. I say this because in previous head on photos of the F60 and F10 side by side, the front tyres appeared to be the same width. Ferrari is very long

I guess they planning on winning races by a nose length...

Heavier cars will have to use full power in the opening laps in order not to fall dawn the grid... that's my logic, and by the time race is near finish they'll have a lot of fuel wasted (not to mention condition of tyres/additional pitstops)

I think I've made a more correct attempt here
 http://www.f1technical.net/f1db/cars/958

I matched the front wing widths, which does reduce the error margin by quite a bit.
There is indeed quite a difference, and what makes it even more interesting is that the Mercedes GP W01 has a length of 4800 mm, supposedly unchanged from last year (particularly odd, but that's what's in their specs).

Wow, the wheel base on the McLaren is enormous! How will they get it round corners? Am I right in thinking this is a car that won't suit the "chuck it in" style of Hamilton?

Regarding W wing, here is the topic from 2008

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5150

BTW, check the last pic on the first page I made. Sail of engine cover connected to rear wing, by me (February 2008). When was it the first time it appeared on real car, 2009. RB 05?
