F1 2010 to be revealed for PC, Xbox, and PS3.

Post

F1 2010

The 2009 PC and HD console version was cancelled.

Must be hard with new teams changing liveries ownership daily so near the release time.

Don't expect too much... I think it will be quite arcadey to be honest. I doubt it will surpass Rfactor in terms of physics. I'm looking forward to it though

If the followed their last few games(Grid, Dirt...etc) then it'll be an arcade affair....

Their older CMR games got the balance of the arcade vs sim quite well....but as it became more and more console oriented, the sim died with it....

I found Grid to be a blast!

Okay so its no Forza, but it still pretty realist especially the drift side of the game.
If it has the option to do proper 60 lap races online then Im game!

Ok, if you read writeups on it, you will find, as in another thread here, that the arcady version is for the wii and psp.

The engine is much stronger, and they were going for realism. They are going to the extent of, for example, not just having one corner marker, but if there are different ones, they will all look different.

They are making it with aids so anyone can drive it, but also a sliding scale to bring the realism up and make the cars quite hard to drive, if you choose.

They are going to have to step up their game to get anywhere near the level iRacing is at.

I kinda doubt they will be going anywhere near iRacing, or for that matter, any ISI engine based sim. They mentioned it'll be based in Dirt's engine, which is not much of a sim, pretty though it looks. The problem is they want to make it "sexy" and "dramatic". While thats fine and dandy, any driving game worth its salt should first get the driving part right....And I will never, ever take the word of someone writing for xbox or ps3 mag as serious opinion on a driving game. All they care about is "sense of speed" and "does the car look busted if I hit a wall". For them a 60 lap F1 race is exactly why all the old games are "dry and boring"....

Contemporary F1-sim games died when F1C 99-02 and Grand Prix series was not followed.

BTW in that magazine scan, the telemetry pic looks like its cut from the telemetry software that came with the F1C....

Of course it's not going to be as realistic as iRacing or RFactor. Those are sims and to be honest, I doubt many "normal" gamers know they exist. They're too realistic for the average person. Too niche.
With a game like this you simply have to strike a balance between Sim and Arcade otherwise it won't sell to either party. Too realistic, no casual gamers will buy, too arcadey no sim gamers will buy. Somewhere in the middle, hopefully both parties will buy it.

From the developers you will have (this is from 2008):
Drying lines
Dust build up
Water
Marbles
Weather
and most probably a tonne more.

The engine for this will be an updated version of the Dirt 2 engine, which itself was updated from Grid and Dirt before it.

TBH there's precious little real information about this game. Trawling their forum draws little.

Edit: Anthony Davidson is helping develop the game.

Personally I could not give a rat's arse to "live the life"....or pretend to be interviewed by press....

IMO so far it looks like it'll have a lot of fluff....not holding my breath for this to be any good...

Looks nice, pit stops with animations, rain(!), realistic looking tracks and cars so far... all compared to games I played like F1C or rFactor.

Only the hole motion blur thingy sucks, never liked it, hope it can be turned off.

I think I'll pass on this one. rFactor 2 is due to come out in 2010 as well, so it's quite an easy choice for me ;)

F1C had pitstop, rain, and as real as the graphic can look back in 2002(!). Granted its not looking up to today's standard, but it drove ok. GTR2 had those feature outside of F1 setting a looks better than the F1C game.

I just don't have much faith in Codemaster to make a good driving sim/game based on their current line of product in the genre......

I know :D I meant real animations during pitstops (F1C had, rFactor doesn't have), same for rain. In case of graphics and GTR2 I have to agree.

And here some news and UI screens of RF2: http://www.racesimcentral.com/news/2010 ... interface/
