Renault R30

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This certainly looks like something that requires cooling, and it is not sensor, but something connected with local sensors.

Manchild, that is a caliper cooling duct. very standard.

Sensors don't give off heat, but if they were in danger of absorbing heat, i am sure the materials used to make the sensors would be rated for really high temperatures. I agree that the smaller duct is piped under the rotor and to the caliper.

Yes, there's a 'Total' sign in the background.

What we have there is a HIU-3 Hub Interface Unit manufactured by McLaren Electronic Systems, there are 4 on each car on the grid. Temprature shouldnt exceed 115 celcus, and is measured by the unit, and if cooling is needed, it should be applied to make sure it remains in the units limits. They can measure up to 8 different things.

It is to be noted that many teams are using this interface now, as of last year there was only one team using this and their own interface and that was Toyota, due to the SECU, many teams are now using the MES interfaces and such now, simply because why spend stupid ammounts of money developing and maintaining their own devices whilst the MES stuff costs alot less than your own stuff. The only teams with interfaces that need to be integrated with the SECU are the teams with the Magnetti Marenelli ignition systems, whitch isnt a biggie now as it was in 2008 when the SECU was brought in.

Wow that is a neat box, certainly compared to last years. At the Launch James Allison told me the two boxes would look different next to each other. They've retained the Ti case, but added no carbon to the outer surfaces. Its certainly slimmer too, judging by the bulges to clear the clutch and gears along the side. The damper\torsion bar arrangement is neat too, again using near vertical torsion bars but moved right to the front of the case.

last years and the year befores gearbox discussion

What I can't understand is why they do seat fitting for Petrov?
Do they have a new chassis for him?

Kubica and Pedrov are racing the same chassis, they're just alternating drivers between the pitstops...

Well...
Seriously.
So they had only one chassis for testing?
Do they need to make a new sit for each new chassis?

Re: Renault R30

I find that curious:

They have announced new sponsor - MOV´IT:
Image

MOV´IT develops high-performance brake systems for sports, racing and security vehicles, as well as for manufacturers of super-sportscars. They say that their brake systems employ a unique construction of carbon-ceramic rotor that offers important advantages over its competitors, especially in terms of weight, strength and durability.

BUT Renault R30 is still using Hitco carbon discs & pads and AP Racing calipers & mastercylinders. Mov'it is just a sponsor.

BTW: Petrov introduced his new helmet design:

Its just good to see the car filling up with sponsors, yet they're still to find a major or title sponsor.
