Out of curiosity, did you print them using the link the guy gives on the website? I'm wondering because the pricing doesn't look too outrageous (or at least I expected it to be more expensive) and wanted to know what the quality is like.

No I just printed the ones out I wanted on my HP Color LaserJet CP1215 as 8.5x11.

Then the lights started blinking saying I now need to drop $100+ of ink on this $300 printer. F**k You Hewlett Packard. You would think after this long of making ink and toner, you would have found a way to make it cheaper FOR US. I am sure as cost to make the ink lessens, which it obviously does, you adjust your profit margin accordingly, to keep hosing us like sheep.

F U HP. Seriously.

Hi Giblet
I use an Epson photo 1290 ink jet which is A3. I also have a bulk ink conversion on it that cost me over £200 but is great. I simply buy a box of 250ml of all the inks and fill as needed, box costs about £90 and lasts well over 6 Months. As well as a regular news letter, various image prints and all my clerical stuff, I also print for a T shirt press I have and supply any image on the shirts for the odd shows I do.
Epson is elecro piezo printing and does not add complications like HP does with heating the ink. (special papers and inks to monopolies the trade)
My system is a bit old now but I do not see much improvement in current printers only extra bells and whistles and new ways to con the punter.

Well done. The LaserJet is a totally different tech though. Technically, it's toner, and not ink. Still, I also have an HP DeskJet, which I only use as a scanner, as it needs new ink as well.

Still, Epson charges better for ink, as does Cannon, and Brother, and EVERYONE but HP. HP is ridiculous. They claim that they can not lower the price any more as the ink is made in a special clean room, then they have another million excuses after that. Excuses sound like excuses.

Everyone knows only tears of newborn unicorns can match the price of HP printer ink.

Gotcha. I'm looking to have poster-sized versions printed for a themed room so I'll have to look around.

Are you not able to find cheap toner on eBay? I have a B/W Brother laser printer that is a few years old and I can get toner for around $30 (US that is...). Retail is about $100 I think. It's been a while since I've checked that; I've only had to replace it once since I bought the printer and I didn't even bother checking retail when I replaced it since I knew eBay was so much cheaper when I bought the original. I got my drum for next to nothing, too.

It does look legit. They only offer one size, though. Maybe that is why it is so cheap?

Unfortunately, I think that's a little smaller than the size I'd like. But if I ever have a photo to enlarge, that might be a good option.

Thanks for the tip Manchild, that's an extremely good price. The best I have found is for a print run, minimum 500/size18X24/$372USD which is 7.44USD a print. Sizes from 8.5X11 to 18X24 are popular, because you can afford to frame them. Thanks again.

I am doing my own prints on an Epson 1400 with a CIS system, but if i decide to do 18X24 prints, I'll try shortrunposters.com

Those are awesome posters! I can't believe that you can download them and print them for free! I'm surprised the site owner is okay with that. I think a framed poster would look great in my living room. Thanks for the link. I wonder if any of the print shops in my area can do a decent print job of one of these?

Thanks guys - glad you like my little art project thingy.

Since you're talking about printing, here's another data point for you. I have a Canon i9900, which can do 13"x19" full bleed. Not big enough for posters, but it's just as well. I've done the math, and I'm pretty sure a 13x19 print winds up costing me at least $6 between ink and paper... making the El-Co prints cheaper than I could do myself, even if the thing could handle paper of that size.

Anyway, I've had over 100 posters printed by those guys - completely thrilled with their price and quality. If you're in the US, I can't recommend them highly enough. (Obviously, they're of no use if you're outside the US.)
