Hertfordshire University Motorsport Technology

Post

Hello guys. Im new here. Thank God Ive found this website. I really learn a lot reading through the forum.

Let me introduced myself. Im 21 this year and currently about to finish my Diploma In Automotive Technology in Malaysia. So Im thinking about further my studies in UK, specifically in Hertfordshire U since my college has collaborate to that university.

I did search about the particular university in this forum but I didnt get much info about it.
I have a few questions about it because my friend and I maybe going there this September.

Any reviews about this university?

My course structures consist all about the fundamentals of a vehicles which is really basics. Getting to know the components of vehicles system and fixing it.What do you learn in Motorsport Technology? Im still confused between this and Auto Engineering with Motorsport.

How about job opportunities?
Are the faculty helpful?
How about the facilities?

I appreciate you guys for taking your time to read and helping me. I'll be posting a few more questions later because I would like to ask my friend if he has any questions too.
If you guys can recommend me to other universities, that be great.

Thank you. :D

I'm a first year student at Hertfordshire Uni, doing Auto Engineering with Motorsport. I'll tell you what I think but, of course, the only way to decide is to see for yourself :P

You said your course was about understanding components of vehicles and fixing them. On the engineering course here in Herts, the ultimate aim is to be able to design, test and build a race car or racing components.

From what I've heard, the BEng (the Engineering course) is more maths-based, and the BSc (the Technology course) is less so. I think the Engineering course is more highly regarded, but I'd like someone else to confirm that if they can. I do know that the BSc requires less UCAS points for entry.

As regards the uni itself, it has some of the best learning facilities on offer from what I've heard. The massive library certainly is amazing; someone told me that it's apparently the best in the UK!!

Herts uni competes in Formula Student, which I am getting involved in hopefully. Our team, UHracing, are UK champions and are also right up there (2nd overall) in the German race which is essentially the 'international' race. All of this and with a tiny budget compared to the others... we certainly have a good reputation! :D

The faculty are helpful if you ask, but because of the sheer amount of students here they won't have time to speak to you otherwise. Of course, in later years with less students studying the course the lectures should become more 'personal'.

As for job prospects... I'm not so sure, but I hear that most people have no trouble in finding a job after gaining their degree. Most people that do a sandwich year (where you gain work experience in the 3rd year of studfy) get a final year project from their place of work and then go on to get a full-time job with them in the future.

I hope I've been of help and throw at me any questions you want!

Guys, I'm thinking about getting the admission to the course "motorsport technology/engineering". But I'm having trouble in choosing the university. My choices are Coventry, Hertfordshire, Brunel n Stafford shire. I searched the universities for their rankings, but all the lists show the university rankings for general engineering. they are not the course specific. Anyone know where I can find the list where they show university rankings in the area of motorsport engg/technology..?? Or if you guys have any information on these universities that will help me choose one...???
