Imperial College London or Cambridge for F1?

Post

Hey guys,

I'm having the mother of all dilemmas. I'm about to finish the IB diploma and have been accepted to read Engineering at Trinity College Cambridge and Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London.

Thing is, I have no idea which one is best if I want to go into F1. I've heard lots of things about both. Some people say "Go to Cambridge no matter what, the name is worth it", others says "true, but for F1 Imperial is the place to be, it is more practical and has great connections". I'm hoping you guys have some more info on where these two places end up bringing you.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :)

I guess not then...

If you do and were too lazy to post, it would be nice if you did :P

For me it would have been nice when you used one of the already existing threats about similar topics.
Maybe you find the answer already here and for researches in the future it would be easier too.
I think about calling a mod to merge all this threats.

I read those, but they don't really answer the question I'm asking, this is quite specific...

Have you asked them about their Alumni? Also ask about their visiting professors & tutors. Do either of them arrange summer interns with F1 teams or associated companies? Then you'll find out which one is better connected.

Of course you need to also be happy with the "feel" of where you go. I know people who have chosen the best course in the land for their subject, hated the location and dropped out. Cambridge & Imperial produce people with distinctive characters, do you personally know anyone from either college? Did you like them or get on with them?

Junior,

Get the best of both.
If I were you, I would go to Cambridge first. Get a Bachelor's degree BA(Hons).
Then go to Imperial, for a Masters or Doctorate.

Perhaps it would be better to complete the full MEng degree at Cambridge instead of just BA. Then PhD at Imperial. Make this decision after a year or two at Cambridge.

While at Cambridge, make as many good friends as you can and keep in touch with them.

Also, make sure you spend your summer vacations working,
Try for internships at Investment banks, or
with F1 associated companies.
