Renault R30

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Kubica said in Polish press after P2 that "[..] they have some problems and team is considering not to use new floor." But: "new front wing improves slightly car balance. it's not a big deal but a consecutive step in a good direction."

How could the new floor cause any problems? In this case it seems to be a major misdevelopement.

Due lack of time I shortened RK answer probably changing "slightly" meaning. My English is far from ideal, sorry. Another attempt ti translate RK answer.

Q: How do the new improvements made to the R30 model?
RK: Here we have some new parts in the car. Unfortunately we had some minor problems morning. I do not know what will be the final decision, but I think we will no more use a new floor. As for the new wing, it had improved the car a little balance. This is not no big deal, but it's another step in the right direction.

R30 floor has a big importance in DD efficiency, so if simulations doesn't agree with real, then it could be a step back instead of improvement. Isn't?

Maybe they underestimated the F-duct advantage and now they're rushing to build it?

Probably or R30 is so compact, that it is too difficult or costly (time and effort) for this particular construction to implement such a solution?

Agree. They adopted a very agressive developement strategy in order to raise the team's level. But there is always the risk of making big but wrong steps. Still to early to know if this a wrong or a good one.

Has anyone found pictures of the "new floor" Kubica is talking about? I got the impression that it is not the same spec as the one on Petrov's car sprayed by the fire extinguisher, but I couldn't see what's new in the pictures I found.

Images being posted twice in the same page, thank you for that guys. :)

ARX_RNLT, you can just refer to the 'vortex generators' instead of posting the entire image again. We will know what you're talking about.
