No, he never said that he is quicker with an oversteer car and he will not be. Perfect car would be a neutral car, he said. Schumacher would prefer a neutral car as well. But this is impossible at most to have all the time in all corners. That's why Rosberg would just prefer oversteer instead understeer.

Whether the driver likes understeer or oversteer is only a fraction of the issue.
The team will work the car and the driver up for the fastest lap times, which usualy works out to a slightly understeering car whether the driver likes it or not.
Building a car to suit the driver would be done in every case if it was sure to result in a faster car. With Schumaker, the past has proven that his skill can result in a specific design direction, so it is sensible to consider this.
Most drivers are still developing and adapting to the cars without either 7 championships or a fully defined fastest car set up to recomend their preferences.
It does make things doubly difficult for Ross Brawn however.
Does he go with his design staff, his engineers, or Michael?
You work it out. I thought not. I cant.

Actually

I think Brawn will choose the fastest solution.

The aero and engineer guys work with each other, and you have to say the engineers got it wrong with the weight distribution issues.
I read in the times the Schumacher dialled oversteer into the car so he could get it working and turning in quickly. It did as much but destroyed his rear tyres in the process. So His problem is specific to himself and does not correlate to Rosberg who can live with a car that doesnt turn in quickly.

The issue here for 2010 is how far do Mercedes go to help Schumacher at Rosbergs expense? Or will Rosberg too benefit from the projected upgrades?
More could have been done.

I am amused by all this. I remember his car just terribly understeered in Monaco and he didn't care as much

Raymond

If you look the understeer occurs is the Grand Hotel Hairpin, NO CAR OVERSTEERS THERE, nor would you want it too!

There is evidence of oversteer at Casino where he almost touches the rear of the car against the barriers.

The understeer was due to the bridgestone tyre over a single lap.
More could have been done.

The video shows he only got a fifth on the grid, so what is your point?
It simply showed tyres going away causing late lap excess understeer. The car could have been anything and so could the set up.
Michael simply did what any top driver would do and drove through the understeer.
This is not the same as having a balanced understeering car that gives the driver enough confidence to achieve a pole position.

Looks like the team is going to use the testing chassis to replace Schumacher's current damaged chassis.

I expect the upgrades to fix the handling problems with the car, so it will help out Schumacher and Rosberg.

I bet the one he is using now is perfectly fine (in terms of damage) and this is just an excuse to give him the next generation of that car first.

It might be based on a test chassis but I bet Rosberg does not have all the changed MS will get at the next reace.

How does that make any sense? You'd put all the best bits on the car/driver with the best record so far. Rosberg. Because he's on 50points not 10. To put it on MS's only or mainly would basically say they are here to flatter MS and not to compete.

And for this reason they will get the same.

If they can only get one car ready then he will (and is) getting the full new car.

The choice of who gets it has already been made.

What I'm saying is It would not surprise me if they only had one new full car ready. This is the test chassis that was back at base (???) and they could have been working on it for weeks already.

Plus with the new points system a 40 point lead is nothing at this stage. A car failure and a win puts that instantly at only 15 in front.

Schumacher and Rosberg are getting the same updates. The only thing Schumacher is getting that Rosberg is not is the old chassis to replace his damaged one. That would just be the tub. You guys are reaching saying Schumacher will get the updates and Rosberg would not. This update has been scheduled for a long time.
