Questions Regarding Formula one From a New Member

Post

Hello There

I have just joined the website. I have been looking for a site like this for about a year. Thank God I have found it, I have learned so much from what I read so far.

I am not a engineer student, but actually a Accounting Student, but I am so interested in the technical stuff of Formula 1 and other racing series that I love learning engineering stuff like this. I just have acouple of questions since I am a rookie at this stuff..

1) I always wonder why this black of piece of carbon is mounthed on the nose on the car. Sometimes it is mounted on the left side of the car or the right side of the car. This time it is mounted on the right side of the nose of the R26, Is this a racing camera ? If not, What is this called and what are the benefits of this of this winglet?

2) I noticed David Richards former Team Principal of BAR Honda was a accountant before he entered into motorsports. I was wondering if there are a lot of business/finance/accounting or other business related positions in Formula one or other related racing series?

3) What are some good sites/books/software that a rookie person interested Formula one and other racing series be interested about. Nothing too technical at the start, just the basics of Vehicle Dynamics and Racing Car Dynamics?

4) I dont know if this question has been asked already, but is there any difference to all the different keel setups on formula one cars?

Yes it is a camera, it provides no downforce at all

Welcome!

1. That black thing is aerodynamic camera casing only single one while the one at the top of the car is double.

2. Flavio Briatore, the chief of Renault F1 team was head of Benetton clothing business in USA.
First F1 race he went to as common spectator was in 1988 while he won WDC as the head of Benetton with Schumacher in 1994! He has no engineering education. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavio_Briatore
