The Red Bulls were impressive particularly in Q1 and Q2 where they were running on primes putting a second on the competitors on softer options.

Mark Webber surprises by delivering a very solid days work and getting his second pole position.

Hamilton fullfils the expectations but Alonso surprises high up on fourth. After the practise, Q1 and Q2 the Ferrari seemed to be even slower than the Mercedes. Button is solid but unlikely to be happy to be beaten by Alonso.

Schumacher on P6 did what the Merc is capable of while his team mate was struggling through most of Friday and Saturday ending on P8. The Merc drivers are swapping their roles effectively. Kubica again shows his class dragging the Renault up to seventh.

Massa on ninths looks like the disappointment of the season for Ferrari which will continue to get the tongues wagging in Italy. Kobayashi did a Banzai lap in Q2 to secure P10 and will make Sauber happy.

Massa is having a rough season. Why is kubica in a renault qualifying ahead of him?
Things don't look good for Massa at ferrari next year then. If kubica is whooping him in a Renault, i am sure ferrari are feeling ever more sure in dropping Massa for the kube... for sure!

They were at the time when I wrote it, which was after the first stint of Q3. Alonso did a good job to get up to P4 but the Ferrari hasn't looked that strong all weekend. They are in danger to be caught by Merc.

Mr Mosley did a great job signing this teams to F1, it's just incredible their level of development, Klien said he didn't drove a F1 car this weekend but something similar. Why don't they go to GP2? Even Minardi did better job with +2 years chassis.

I can't agree with this evaluation. Any new team with a fraction of the resources of established teams would suffer similarly. The problem is not the new teams but the slow process of restricting resources. People will have to give them a bit more time. It is not that the new teams are particularly weak but that the established teams have become very strong through a period of extreme richness and resource build up.

Bit harsh. Sure HRT are struggling and Virgin look like they might benifit from a real wind tunnel but Lotus being only 1.5 off a team like Williams is a very good achievement in such a short space of time
