Re: Opera or Firefox?

Post

So, I've been pretty happy with FF for some time now but lately it has been crashing quite often (not responding). I've noticed that it happens when I have a lot tabs opened up, 4+, but that used to be ok. And another thing I've noticed is that when the window has been open for a long time, more specifically when I've turned the computer on and off several times without closing the window, it has more tendencies to crash.

Has anyone else had similar encounters? I'm getting pretty tired since sometimes it will run very slow when I'm typing (it will play catch-up with me) and then suddenly it will crash. But fortunately all of my tabs will be restored after every crash, but where it not for that I would not be so relaxed about this whole ordeal.

I'm on the current 3.6.3 version.

That problem only ever affects me when the computer is under heavy-load. High CPU/RAM usage.
Only happens when I'm at work (we've got 1 computer in the staff room that's so old and rubbish it barely works. I can type faster than it renders =/) so I can't help much there.

I guess your computer is working fine outside of Firefox, correct?
Tried re-installing it? Or tried it without add-ons? It may be a single add-on that's causing it

btw for Opera fans: 10.6 Alpha

Yes everything is working fine outside of FF. And I have not tried reinstalling it yet. I have less than a hand full of add-ons btw, with the most recent being the ad blocker.

There is a new version available so I just might try it out. Thanks for the suggestions/help Roost89.

My ad blocker has failed a few times recently, and Im finding some websites just will not load if you have it on! Is this a ploy on behalf of the IT dudes?
More could have been done.

I haven't experienced any sort of problems with the loading of any sites, so I think ad blocker is doing its job just fine thank God.

I think I'll just have to close my windows every time I leave the computer. :? It's as if they get stale if you leave them open for too long. Preservatives anyone?

I use all the web browsers available! My primary browser is Firefox and I'm currently using Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 which very few add-ons are comtatible with, and I have said goodbye to "Tab Mix Plus" and "Fireshot" , but fortunately Flagfox is working on it :)
If I want to choose another browser rather than Firefox, I will choose Opera. I've been using Firefox since 1.5 version and it's been my favorite since that time.
