Aerodynamics help.. BMW M3 vented hood design

Post

Guys-

I was curious if anyone had any input on this vented hood design. There has been debate on the BMW forums as to the functional aspect of the design. Any thoughts?

From my oponion its more to do with the cooling than aerodynamic.from aerodynamic point of view, isnt it better to have a slowest possible air moving around the top of the car to get a lot of downforce?

Well.....It seems to me that it has something to do with cooling....the "holes" are precisly over the engine....but it might have to do with aerodynamics to...the hot air after passing the radiator in a road car tends to get underneth the car...cause there isn't any place for it to go...it can't gointo the cabin.....so it going under the car.....in this case it exits over the car...this means that less air is travelling under the car!...which will case a lower pressure underneth the car....this means that the car is slightly pulled onto the ground.....so those vents might bring extra downforce to the front of the car.....but only noticable at high speeds....

Yeah, cooling is more the idea behind it but I was curious as to what the aero effects would likely be with the pressure differential.

TBH is more of a marketing style thing, proper hood venting would use louvres to a stop water ingress and to use the boundary layer to suck the hot air out. the Bentley Super sports does the same thing. It always going to be marketing and style over form over function with these sort of cars. Other wise the product wouldn't sell and bunch of idiots would be umemployed.....
