What Lewis and Macca did today was not.
That indeed is heroic, but no one did/should claim what Lewis and/or McLaren did today was heroic...

But it was touching because it probably reminded many people of Mansell giving Senna a lift back to the pits and/or again Mansell running out of fuel at Canada. History has a funny way of repeating itself. I'd even call it sense of humor

The sector times and the pole time would suggest otherwise, but hey, why introduce data in to a discussion...

The reason Hamilton got pole has nothing to do with the f-duct and everything to do with him being consistent. Look at the sector times at http://www.formula1.com/results/season/ ... times.html to see that the f-duct made little impact. He was quicker in S1 (which has no f-duct favouring straights), 4th but less than 1/10th behind in S2 and less than a 1/10th ahead in S3. The key is that those around him weren't so consistent.

Which they had to do on soft tyres and with no fuel in the car to even get Hamilton back to the pits, but why let facts get in the way of wishful thinking? Everything is going to be fine.

Seriously, if Hamilton had 1 more kg of fuel -which would've been sufficient to get him back to the pits - was he going to lose 0.2 secs ?

I think not.

As far as soft tyres are concerned... If RB really thought they could go faster with the soft compound, they'd have used them instead of the medium one. In Canada, their car does not go faster when the soft tyres are on.

The McLarens have been fast all weekend. Fact.

The difference between stopping <500m from the pits and in the pits is less than the difference between Hamilton's Q3 time and the Red Bull times.

Hamilton's prime times weren't exactly slow. McLaren have gambled the 1/10th - 2/10ths difference to the Red Bulls on the a safety car incident early in the race. If that happens, the silver cars are likely to leave the blue cars behind.

On prime tyres, the McLarens have been matching the Red Bulls. On options, the Red Bulls have been struggling.

We'll see the true position tomorrow...

I thought there was a regulation that required the cars to weigh a minimum of 605 kg after qualifying vs. 600 kg otherwise specifically to prevent cars from running out of fuel on their in lap.

Has this reg been done away with with the changes to fueling, parc ferme, etc.?

I recommend reading the posts about FP3 to debunk that myth.

The Red Bulls were faster on the options even at low track temps.

FP1 and FP2 yesterday saw track temp differences which clearly showed that higher track temps were making the Red Bulls go even faster on options.

During FP3 track temp was 22-21°C. During Qually temps were considerably higher and the line was rubbered in much better. I reckon the Red Bulls would have been 0.3-0.5 s faster on options. This is an educated guess but one with high probability and fact support.

Would they have been able to do say 2 laps and outlap on those options for q3 and still have enough life left in them to do even 6 laps in the race?
I think that may be the reason they did not qualify on them, where as the Mclaren of Hamilton was equally as fast on the options and primes, but had no complaints today about the options.
Remember that first 5 minutes in q3 where the Mclaren was on top, on primes and attempts to beat the time were unsuccessful for most of the runners? That was early on, and i think with the track getting more rubbered in, had Lewis stayed on the primes, he might have been able to front row behind a redbull, or atleast put the car in third.
For Sure!!

I remain convinced that Red Bulls tyre choice was strategical. They need to get a race without safety car to yield max profit. Even the first ten laps without SC would probably see them well in front.

Despite all Hamilton debates, I have a serious question

The that hit the wall (Webber etc.) are they allowed to change the rim or even the whole tire + suspension or do have they have to live with that?

In parc ferme all defective components can be exchanged under scrutiny of the FiA engineers. Tyres, rims and suspension component make no difference.

Webber also on primes and faster.
So what's the RedBull Qually score now WB?

Btw, massive staegic blunder by MacMerc send Hamilton out on Options, Webber and Vettel are going to swamp Hamilton after only a handful of laps - even if he gets an early Saftey Car the Bulls will stay out in the clear air and run away from the feild for another 1-2 (assuming Vettel has learnt to look where he is going!).
