Renault R30

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

the metallic piece is not a flattened exhaust outlet or a connection but a kind of nozzle. The pipe is hidden behind the bodywork and the exhaust gazes are blown through that 'nozzle'. Original.

I think its aim is to accelerate the gazes, not to protect the wishbones or the tires. IMO, the protection is provided by the vertical metallic vanes on the floor and by the multy layer skin aroud the wishbones.

Renault is confident that improvements will be even better at Silverstone. Specifically, they said that their double floor and exhaust system in Valencia (who say it's worked well) to give even better results after being tested for the first time. They say that they have to understand that the car is completely different than before, they were given the advantage in fast cornering (what so far had a Red Bull). It seems that the car got a lot of downforce, which was reflected in lower top speed. Before, Renault was the on top speed advantage, but now it is the reverse situation. A big improvement for Renault and now needs to work on F-duct to the car finally able to win victories. Victories, not podiums, podiums (sure) will come for a few races, which will now match the Renault.

Expect F-duct before Monza, then we really need.

I wonder what issues they had with the EDD, that they were talking about. Anybody read anything? I also wonder what upgrades they are planing for Silverstone, they were supposed to be sigfnificant from what I can remember. They were talking about significant upgrades for both Valencia and Silverstone. Maybe it's the suspension, there was some talk about that earlier on in the season. F-duct seem to be planned for later(Spa) according to RF1PP forum.

The mind of Alain Prost.
The dedication of Michael Schumacher.
The determination of Alex Zanardi.

From what Rod nelson said, the updates are significant and the team is very confident. He said next updates are mostly aerodynamic. So mechanic updates are expected.
The team said that they are concentrating on the EDB.
Allan Permane said that the EDB we saw in Valencia is just their first iteration.

I could not like it as you have been using my materials without apparent credit to my work. No good way to start writing articles, Samuel!

I have nothing against it if you use my edited pics or texts - just pop a name and link to my site there somewhere.

You have not reacted to my emails neither the webmaster of renault-f1.fr has. And the credit is still missing there!

(Just want to let you know guys in this forum how the things are).

I think that Renault moved things a bit further by positioning exhaust in that way. It is almost 300mm more forward than RB6. They are not just blowing diffuser, but also using floor to generate downforce as pressure from the exhaust expands freely upwards and sideways while it hits the floor below.

Small bits are to prevent tires from facing it, to prevent sideways spilling, while the main curvy addon is to guide exhaust gasses over the surface of floor rather to just blow above it towards diffuser.

Like the compensator on AK47, same principle.

On the bbc mike Gascoyne told a few things about the EBD, that apart from having effect on the diffuser it also helps managing air around the tires, what i can think of is these exhaust gasses mix up with regular air or it just gives some sort of seal having the same effect as smooth bodywork in that area
