Red Bull RB6

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I dont see anything "Radical" on their, or anything that special if I am honest. Cant see why Red Bull made such a fuss of the rear end of this car. I think personally the advantage always come from the way they got heat into the tyres on a single lap, as well as the exhaust exits! I just dont think anyone realised how much performance the exhaust exit was worth.

I wonder if Adrian worked on the car design partly upside down?
Could have been a good starting point.

Luckily for us the RB6 has been craned about quite a bit this season. We saw the car earlier thsi season with a conventional RB5-like DDD inlet under the floor. Now, with Webbers loop-the-loop, we can see the new for Valencia arched exit diffuser gains McLaren\Renault like vaned inlets underneath, creating a much longer and wider inlet to the DDD. Quite an important upgrade (and not one we would have seen if Mark hadn't given his Red Bull its wings...!)

Is in yellow oval a hole or it is just sun shining? Is it a part of DDD?

Some more screens from YouTube with different angles of flying RB6. Sorry for the redundancy, maybe somebody finds it interesting. Please feel free to tell, which photos should I delete from my post.

We need enhanced photos to really see what's going on under there.
What i can say is that their diffuser entry is very long, suggesting a multi stage upper diffuser, or a very voluminous upper diffuser.
For Sure!!

Thats the step down in the tub, where the drivers seat is placed.

Yeah, if sb has true HD record of this incident, not scaled and converted down YouTube stream, please put link here :D. Or any real photo.

Normally I could oblige but Sky Germany decided to dedicate their only HD sport channel to the FIFA world cup and broadcast the European GP in SD. So the video quality which usually is as good as you get it with the limited resolution this time is a lot worse. Perhaps someone with Sky Italia or BBC red button has a better recording.

There are already three different things I notice.

This is the first thing I notice, the edges of the step under the floor has very rounded edges.

I think it is an optical illusion. Yes, edges are rounded, but not that much.

From Eric Boullier about R30 EBD there is some interesting info about RB6:

But the bottom exhaust does not give an advantage: they are expensive because the Red Bull mechanics have to change the flat bottom twice per weekend. Nevertheless, they give a good advantage: three tenths per lap. They [RF1] have remedied this problem by using very strong materials at this site [probably titanium].

so actually there is achance of the car falling apart in mid race due to the body work catching fire or something? Typical something for red bull to do, make an weak car even weaker(reliability wise)
