I wouldn't be at all suprised if Williams consistently out-perform BMW Sauber & Red Bull...

...and it wouldn't suprise me if they beat Toyota on the odd occasion either. The car is looking very good, and the engine looks as though it can really punch above it's weight. Remember also, Cosworth really are V8 specialists, and they have had time running without variable length intake trumpets. These engine rules are just what they'd like...after all, they did help the FIA with the regulations...or so the rumour goes.

good on them! it will be wonderful to see williams START a season competitively and not have to play catch up as they have in recent seasons. they certainly seem to have a fresh wind now that the BMW saga is behind them, if quotes and reports read in the press are true. i recently read a quote by sam michael discussing how tightly packaged their rear end is, it went something like "im ok if we have some burnt bodywork and overheating problems to start with, as were trying to be as aggressive as possible in our design - if we dont have some issues with this, then i dont think weve gone far enough." i think it was the last issue of autosport - anyhow, it sounds like they really have the right attitude and mindset about them this year, i hope it all comes good for them.

EDIT: its late and the college in me just kicked in - i have decided that for every point williams scores, ill have a shot. or perhaps i should drink a budwiser, and support their support of williams!

right well, im optimistic and am hoping for some wins, and ten shots is enought for me to feel mighty fine
i watch the races live (despite the horrid american time zone), and i think an idea posted on another thread about having live discussions during the course of a race is an apt opportunity for an international F1 drinking game . . . .

hey becker, we're in the same time zone, i usually watch F1 by stats (from formula1.com) if i'm up that late cause I don't have cable. we sure get screwed for almost all the races don't we!

it's not that bad watching by the stats, sometimes it's a little more exciting because you can see who's starting to pick up speed with the time differentials...it is sad when a team is not doing well because you'll see them a few seconds of the fastest lap pace for the entire race. it's best when fastest lap changes drivers every lap. also, the speed trap results are very interesting.

anyways it'd be nice to have both picture and stats.

I like Williams, and it would be very nice to see them back in form. It appears the Cosworth is a very serious piece of work, and nothing to dismiss. It will be interesting to see how Williams compares to BMW/ Sauber. The parting of BMW and Williams wasn't as amicable as it could have been, and I'm sure each really want to beat the other.

You are not looking at the big picture. Yeah, I agree that this year BMW Sauber has no chance against FW28, but then again, Frank Williams never had any intentions of beating Sauber - his ultimate goal is to win the WCC and WDC, and Sauber was never really in the running for either one.

So, couple of years from now, when BMW puts the right people in place, who knows...maybe BMW will be a championship contender and Williams will slip back in to the middle of the field.

When Williams enjoyed great glory, they were unarguably the best privateer team. Their opponents, Like Mclaren and Ferrari, were well funded, but nowhere the collosal organizations they are now. These days, major manufacturers are putting a lot of money and resources behind Formula One teams. Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, Renault, Honda, and Toyota.
When Sauber sold his interests to BMW, he had in place a decent privateer organization, that was going to get even better with his new wind tunnel. They were a logical choice for BMW to buy out. But despite the terrific organization and marketing genius and drive of Sir Frank, he remains still "just" a privateer.
I do sincerely want Williams to rise to the top again, but in this modern climate, I expect the large, well funded factory backed teams to eventually be at the top. That is the trend. Unless somehow the rules or climate in F1 changes, Williams will face a very tough road ahead.
But it sure would be nice to see Williams cop wins, and maybe a title. It is possible they could do it this year, although the odds are tough.
We shall see, but I will be wishing to see Williams and Cosworth kick some major butt.
