I would agree cut the political stuff, but as this is only limited by one or two posters who like to take things down a political route I don't see it as a major problems and should be easily stamped out.

I think that this site needs a balance of light hearted threads like this along with the technical ones. By doing this there is still the opportunity for non-technical users to participate and not feel totally alienated. I regularly read the technical threads but due in part to my overall lack of engineering knowledge am extremely reticent about posting on them for fear of attracting some of the less understanding users, who expect everyone to know a lot but don't appreciate that some of us are less knowledgable on the technical, and am on here to learn with a view to being able to participate on the technical side more in the future.

Threads like this don't cause any harm and are just a bit of fun so I see nothing wrong with them, as long as there are no attacks and/or accusations.

I think the worst and dangerous threads are about drivers, where some posters create a field of personal attacks for whatever reason.
I understand that this form of conversation leads easily to a confrontational debate crossing the barrier of acceptable behaviour all too quick compared to a debate you´d do eye to eye but quite often I think some posters deliberately do this ,and I
certainly can apologise in cases when going overboard and I expect others to do so as well.

We should henceforth refer to car numbers only. Would make it a little tricky as we get used to it.

No doubt there will be arguments the 7 cuts into corners, while 8 is a lot softer in style.

Fair enough, I am the first one here with very low engineering knowledge. And I have been welcomed here. The site as it is allows the experts and the newbies to live together, and easy questions share space with difficult questions while simple answers share it with complicated ones that many cannot understand. And that's good and that's how it is supposed to be, I guess.

No, no and no! Non-engineers are welcomed, but non-technical users are not! If one is not technically minded, that person should not be here, I think. One should at least TRY to understand how and why things work: mechanics, aero, materials, procedures, stuff like that. I think I am citing Giblet while saying that posting here is a privilege, not a right.
To everyone: play nice, try to contribute, to f1technical.

It can get crazy in here sometimes for sure, and it is usually my driver / your driver kind of spats that do it. I've even had a user continue arguing with me about a driver after repeatedly telling them to stop arguing with me, while offering no fodder at all.

I am also a non technical user, but it doesn't mean you can't contribute in a somewhat technical way. Write an article, and research to make it. I wrote a history of sidepods for people to read, and I learned much while writing it.

I couldn't engineer myself out of a paper bag, and I download setups for my simracer since every tweak I make seems to make my car full of squirrels.

But, being a non technical user ddoes not always mean needing to get lost in the yingyang mire on this board.

I guess I am more like the technical users as I don't have a favorite driver or team, just a couple of drivers I don't really like that much. Anyifanboyismism for lack of any real or decent words.

I know it's uncanny isn't it? I don't think it's been doctored but if it has then I didn't do it ... the original is here, found via Google Image search.

OK, I did choose that one because he's doing a particularly Schumacher-esque smile but I remember finding the similarity quite off-putting watching the first film - it's even more obvious when you see him in motion.
