Lotus T127 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Looking forward to seeing the new bodywork at Silverstone

Theese are the last updates to the T127 as they are turning toward 2011 with the T128. The updates are alot of lighter weight parts and new bodywork solutions.

Thing im looking forward to is seeing where they have latched on to, if they have gapped the 0.8 seconds to the tail end of the mid feild they will be doing just fine.

This theam will just grow and grow in my opinion.

As much flack as Mike G. gets from media, forum trolls etc, he's really shown his uncanny abilities with this team. I admire Tony F. for giving him the resources and support. Personally I've always been a fan of someone who speaks their mind if they believe they are correct. He's well known for his pitbull-like character and this year has really shown he still has the ability to lead a technical team in the right direction even on a minuscule budget. I foresee this Lotus group doing big things in a short amount of time. They are destined for greatness just the same as the original Lotus which the Chapman family endured.

Looking forward to the much slimmer version coming at Silverstone.

Hmm, no EBD or F-duct, neat though.

I think they have a lot to gain from sorting out basic stuff, before moving to something advanced.

Official word from Mr Gascoyne on the EBD matter:

Regarding F-duct, as he says, they are a small team. I doubt it worth it for them to develop something that they can only use for half a season and that costs buckets of money.

I agree, it is the correct decision to make.
However I think it will keep them at around the same position in the pack if they do not bring in some inovation.
The trouble is, with (I would think most) of their budget used up on first year structuring and sorting hydraulic/powertrain issues, it would be to risky to go much further this year.
IMO Lotus have achieved the most of any team this year.

Do you think that they're going to be worried about an EBD when it has taken them half a season to produce rear bodywork that comes in a single piece?

You need to make sure you have the fundamentals in place before you start mucking around with trick ancillaries.

I'm sure that Lotus will gain more from weight reduction and general slimming down than they would have done from sticking an EBD on the tractor they were using for their rear end at the start of the season.

I don't think that F-duct and EBD would place them ahead of FI or TR either.
Their biggest chance for points is being reliable and getting some luck with weather.

Agreed, that's why it is right for them not to spend too much time on F-duct that would be not used next year.

Dunno, Hispania might be even better in that respect.
But I agree that Lotus made PROGRESS, while Hispania and Virgin mainly just got rid of the messy stuff.

After watching that video, does anyone else think that the exhaust manifold/exit pipe looks huge compared to what we have seen on other cars?

I would be a little dubious about the power delivery from the engine with an exhaust with the bends shown. I do not think the diameter looks to large though.
