Lotus T127 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I guess the loss is minimal when you have a 3 inch tube. The gas is hot too so that helps it go through the bends.

It is more to do with the back pressure pulse which is controled by the length of each primary pipe from the port runner to the join.
Complex tight bends will effect this and if the scavenge effect created by this tuned length pipe is altered it can vary the amount of power and delivery along the rev band.
However I am sure Lotus work closely with the engine supplier on this, so it was simply an observation.

I have to say that altho the new cover will probably work better for aero reasons, the old cover looks better, more like a racing car to my eye.

Is it just me, the angle of the picture, or is there a slight difference in the curvature under the nose?

It continues to be boxy... :(
Maybe it is the way the sidepods are undercut, but it doesn't look very much sculped.
They are using the same idea as Mercedes with the engine cover instead of the anvil wing.

Wait to see it from different angels before saying it's still boxy...

For example:

The Lotus is starting to look more and more like an up-to-date F1 car, rather than a car of years past.

it looks like a box ,a green box .

Till this time it looks like they did a good job starting last with their project and still the best of the new teams.

I still do not understand why gascoyne did not grab the toyota and did only the cosworth adaption..that would have been a sure move into the points in the first season ...with Trulli and lots of Toyota guys in place already..

Was it just for the money to not do it?

I´m very curious if Virgin has the strength i depth to bring the uprgrades and make them work in the comming weeks to leapfrog lotus...as their car definitively looks the part compared to the lotus.. but looks is not everything...

Rumours that Lotus are looking to secure Renault engines for next year.

I've often wondered if the hydraulic problems all the new teams have suffered are down to the Cosworth engine.

Anyone have any ideas what advantages the Renault would bring? I'm assuming power is similar, the Cosworth appears to be reliable and I doubt it would be any heavier than the minimum weight. I can only think of driveability.

Consumption ?
cooling ?
driveability ?

That are Renaults strengths according to many sources..

Haha yeah. I should probably have thought a little harder.

Packaging is another.

Not sure about KERS. I thought that was developed by the teams rather than the engine supplier. Maybe this time round they will be more involved.

KERS itself isn't developed by the engine supplier but the engine has to be able to support KERS. Cosworth did announce they'd be making sure the engines are "KERS ready" by the start of next season
