The "Never give up" attitude of JV....note the driving with one hand....priceless!!!
that would never happen in today's F1! They would never let somebody do something that dangerous! What if that bloody wheel came out and hit another car? It would kill someone, but the commentator did not even mention such a possibility!

no, but we would have a F1technical thread that was 574 posts long on "Is JV desperate or what? :D

One of the most stupid displays ever. Driving at a snail's pace, on the racing line, forcing others off line in areas with little or no scope for error. Look at the tyre coming off at about 1:06 and the subsequent car hitting (or narrowly missing) it as it lay on the racing line.

Today a driver would, quite rightly, be roundly castigated for such behaviour.

Oh yes, it's from 'back in the day' so "what a bloody hero he was". Not!

GV actually.

yep, true. Asphalt would have worked better.

Well I guess if you were brought up in this modern age you might think so...You're wrong. To be sure at the time there were those who thought it dangerous..Enzo and I saw it as following in the vein of Nuvolari..
For his part Enzo could not find fault with Gilles.. “Villeneuve still makes some ingenious mistakes, but is a man who wants to come out on top at all costs. He has been justifyably criticised, but we mustn’t forget that his enthusiasm and passion have a predecessor: Tazio Nuvolai. In 1935 Nuvolai won the Brno Grand Prix in Czechoslovakia driving on three wheels.”

I think Nigel Roebucks comments on the incident paint a clearer picture of the Villeneuve philosophy..” Thank God there will always be a few people in this world who simply know not how to give in. It was foolhardy, yes, but it came from the same pure competitiveness and spirit which has characterised all his races. He likes to win, rather than not lose”.

Where is he now? Oh yes, he died trying to prove a point for a silly slight from his team mate. Great move.

I'd rather see drivers like GV trying to finish on three wheels rather than 'golden boys' throwing toys out of the pram even before the accident ended.

Very close to killing a couple of marshalls by the look of it. If any of the guys running along the armco at the end had tripped (especially the last guy) then they'd have had a face full of SEAT.
