A bit science
So I tested blown rear wing (working on F-duct)

I made two identical rear wings except one is blown

All the conditions were same
Air speed was 30m/s

Speed compared:

Ordinary wing

Blown wing

Quite clear that ordinary wing have more turbulence air and blown wing is seperating earlier

Pressure compared:

Ordinary wing

Blown wing

Again there is a big difference between those wings. Ordinary wing produces lower pressure

Level of downforce and drag:
Ordinary wing: 1886N downforce and 968N drag
Blown wing: 1560N downforce and 815N drag

Hey Tonn, ive been modeling formula one cars for a couple years, and i was wonder if any of your models are up for public download. When i first saw this thread, i thought it was going to be lame, but actually it inspired me to sign up on this site. But the reason i want it is because i have a V12 engine with full motion, and wanted to see how it would look in your model. So please let me know on this post or PM.

Ton why not run the blown wing at high speeds for a better idea. Also put in a rectangle for a floor. Another thing is you might want to increase your # of cells and other parameters to get more accurate results.
Can you draw on your pic how your f duct air is flowing through the wing?
For Sure!!

Turbulence model: k-epsilon

Thank you very much.

i wonder why you chose k-epsilon.

Do people still use k-epsilon??
I thought no one uses it now and because of this reason i never bothered to add into the program i am writing (or re-writing).
Think i shall add this too.

I suspect it's used on home systems rather than in industry where LES is probably most popular.

I have do say that I have learned useing CFdesign on my one while reading manual. So I used k-epsilon just because manual recommended that. And definitely I have a lot to learn about CFD. Getting all the setups right takes time. Also I am using my ordinary home computer that has limits. So my analysis are not the most accurate ones :) Increaseing # of cells needs more time, but I realy dont have that right now.

Tonn i will be uploading second version of iNavier next month as free software. This is same algorithm as fluent/starccm+. I am now busy finalizing it and doing validations and basic documentations (tutorials) etc etc.

The program shall have shared memory parallel version and you could use it on windows machines (and on linux also if you wish).

That time if you have access to 64 bit windows you could run few millions elements with it.

Since my main work is related to drag predictions i know that will be good enough to use into this industry too.

I will notify when i upload new version.
Ps: please do not download and use old inavier as old version is not very robust. (new version is completely re-written due to that reason and very different program. It only shares name with old program).

Hey TONN, if you don't mind i have made some simulations on the whole car

http://picasaweb.google.com/10198386863 ... 0208549458

i have some problems with the actual magnitude of the forces on the front and rear wings
i want to know did you use a unsteady sim or a steady one, what step in time did you use and some aspects regarding the mesh size, mine has about 11M elements and it takes some time to do the calc.
btw: i want to thank LegendaryM for giving me one of his models witch i used as a start point...

This could be very relanvent, giving that the new 2011 cars will have a smaller front wing (not movable) and a movable rear wing. But I think the winged diffuser is a moot point.

Guys, sorry to barge in on this thread but Is there a thread/online guide/website etc which I can view and learn how to make these cars on the programs?
Im completly new to this concept but I'd love to learn how to model the cars myself.
Thanks

Hi,
i simply love your car and the cfd works. Great!
Could you send me some cfd pics with a higher resolution?

Thank you :)))
