segedunum:

You saved me from posting in reply to WhiteBlue. Thanks. There is no point in trying to debate when people so consistently take any disagreement as an attack on their person/intelligence or otherwise.

As it stands all of the drivers who've mentioned this incident as well as the stewards think Schumy was in the wrong here - other than Schumy of course. He is probably the most famous bad sport in the world and he surely knows this and his nature is to never back-down or admit wrongdoing.

you certainly make me think twice on that..  In one LMP team (unfortunatelly gone now, no involvement of my side)they called me SCHULMEISTER....

From my side it was two silly old men declining to rethink a decision they have made,
for schu it was afterwards :no contact made ,case closed.unfortunatelly place lost and SPA qualy severely compromised.
for Barrichello it was really important not to back off...
On the pics the distance to schumacher is more like 150 mm ....schumacher could not see how close rubens was to the wall...

This is what could have happened with Rubens - scary stuff - this from Superleague Brands Hatch same move

I have been reading the forums for a while and have noticed WB's German bent. However I think that he has a point here.

What no one has pointed out is that MSC did leave enough room, as demonstrated by Rubinho getting through!

As Irvine said to Senna (before getting punched) "a miss is as good as a mile"!

To be honest I am getting increasingly upset by the constant intrusion of the stewards whenever a driver pushes the limits by risking more overtaking or defending while we all whine about the lack of overtaking. A great example of this was at Silverstone with Fred's move that had him penalised.

We seem to be discouraging overtaking. Maybe they should bring back refuelling and ban on tack passes?

Indeed, but this would be even worse, as the speeds were much higher. Take a look at what webber did in valencia, or at the indy cars, such an thing would have happened, endangering all the stewards around. And then we havent even talked about the dirt where rubens drove, there is also possibly debris there wich could just have ripped rubens tire apart. Overall it was an dangerous move, but it was great to watch

RB was with all 4 wheels off the track. Fact that it was tarmac doesn't mean that it is is track.

Area between pitwall and white line isn't track. Scumaker pushed him completely offtrack.

In hindsight, it's highly ironic that RBR's strategy fail that cost them a 1-2 was their own strategy split. If both had stayed out and did what Mark Webber did, they would have probably been 1-2. If Webber had pitted behind Vettel then it might've been 1-3 or 1-4. But still, at the end of the day it came down to Vettel brainfade. And you have no idea how much it pains me to admit that of my favorite driver :(

If they had let both drivers stay out, and won the race with a 1-2 the hard way, with both "doing a Mark Webber," RBR would officially be my favorite team. As of now, Vettel is still my fave, but my favorite team is still MacMerc.

Actually, if we take into account that the track is bordered by the white lines and that Rubens (as you can see in the photo) was technically *off* the track, would it be deemed as an off-track overtaking maneuver? But I think they were more occupied with Schumi's chop.

Off track overtaking is generally only frowned upon when it involves cutting the inside off of a corner : how many times have we seen overtaking on the outside run off during the first corner scrabble?

In Barry's case, he was back on track by the time they reached the corner, so it was all good!

I do not care for White lines, I do care for concrete barriers.

@Segedunum, I'm not going to argue with you. I do not see a way how we can even get on the same set of basic facts. So to come to a proper discussion of Rubens move with you looks impossible.

@all. I have presented two series of screen shots from behind and in front of the action. I have the front view footage and the air box view from Rubens car.

@Those many people who still think that I'm defending Schumacher. You are barking up the wrong tree.

Like Kubica did to Alonso a couple of weeks ago?
