Adrian Newey in a heavy accident whilst racing a Ginetta

I was bored this afternoon and chose to tune in to the British Touring Car Championship.

To my surprise, Adrian Newey was driving a Ginetta in one of the support races. He was involved in a race-ending collision and has been taken to the medical centre for precautionary checks.

Newey was caught up in someone else's spin : he was not at fault.

Red Bull Technical Director Adrian Newey has been involved in an accident in Round 17 of the Ginetta G50 Cup at Snetterton. Newey was racing in the guest car when he was tagged from behind before being collected by a following car. Newey has been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Following the incident, the race was red flagged handing the race win to Frank Wrathall.

That is all that is known at this time. Hopefully it is indeed just a precautionary check.

Adrian has been taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure after being clipped by Julien Draper of Barwell Motorsport which caused Tony Hughes of Speedworks to have a side on collision with Newey's DynoJet car. It's testament to the strength of the G50 roll cage that the car withstood heavy impact and there were no serious injuries.

So it's officially confirmed that there was no serious injury.
