This is indeed the million-euro question, isn't it gil? Machiavelli told the prince to never elevate someone above his own competence too close to himself, didn't he?

In other words, never underestimate the personal incentives, as if MrE ever bothered to nurse a successor?

I bet that if the fat journo runs up te stairs of that xpensive hotel and suffers a heart-attack, there will be no obvious crown-prince, but plenty of pretendents, little doubt about that.

This trash talk if Norbert annoys me for several years now.
Usually its just lame excuses and quoting how many races they won in the past and that they will do so in future.
I think it should be always better to stick to the truth instead of treating the fans like fools.

Not that I want him to retreat just to be honest.

Methinks that Haug "looked" a lot smarter when Mclaren was Mercedes program. After all it was Mclaren that improved the horsepower of their engines through chemical technology and development. Maybe one the reasons that the Mclaren is still the fastest Mercedes in a straight line?
Maybe to "make up" for this loss, Haug has to trash talk to protect his knowledge and position of the "go to guy" at Mercedes....

Though I find it difficult to believe, when you make excuses for two employees that have 15 WDC's between them....IMHO :D :D :wtf:

McLaren did not improve the Merc engine. All work was the responsibility of Ilmor and HPE. McLaren would not be allowed to put their hands on the engines.

Who are the two employees that have 15 WDCs between them?

So Haug is an unlikeable guy now?
Christ almighty, he is one of the most popular guys in the pit lane and was also year on year the only member of McLaren staff Ferrari would ever publicly fraternise with.
He isnt the messiah, but he also isnt a demon.

As I said his record speaks for itself.

Best be careful what I say before the fanboy talk starts

And good morning to you too JET!

Quite right, Haug's a journo, probably even likeable, comes with the territory that he rubs with just about anyone.

Morning xpensive, :D

My concern with Mercedes is will the board have patience after there 3 years are up?
Zetsche is a very target orientated person, and his target is to win within 3 years.
This year is a flop, certainly. But if it means Mercedes know what they have to do to get it right then I think it is a valiant flop.

Personally(and as I have stated before) I think they should have done what they did in 1993, paint the cars black(unoffical merc colour) and state its a "concept by Mercedes".
This takes alot of the public pressure off and helps bring an experimental vibe to the project.

I'm not one to turn a blind eye to the teams failings, but I'm also not sure criticizing Mercedes is fair. Whats done is done, I just hope next year we will see a better car that will be able to mix it at a few races next year.

Interesting side note here guys, Rosberg and Schumacher appear to be on the same salary. Parity at Mercedes after all! 8)

I'm sure Zetsche said that, but what he was led to believe by the fat journo is quite another matter. Investing money and kudos in a WDC as well as WCC team, I doubt he will be satisfied with trailing McLaren at the end of 2012.

Mercedes has done one helluva marketing-job since the 80s, transforming from the traditional MB-buyer to something completely different, how much their F1 engagement has contributed to this is unclear however. As long as they were xclusive with McLaren while winning, fine, but memory is short, people watching MS making a fool of himself in their own car might not do them much good after all.

My friends in Wolfratshausen tells me BMW stands for "Bei Mercedes Wieder", can you translate that properly marcush?

-I´m not sure if I´m the correct guy to translate this ..and I don´t know this pun...I know others...As it is a bavarian "Schmäh" ...
I´d say : find a copy of this at Mercedes dealership.

funny is -in the Stuttgart Area ,a Mercedes car does exist only on paper ,it is always a DAIMLER im Schwabenland .
I´m personally from Hockenheim area ...and there(close to Mannheim /Ladenburg) a Mercedes is called a BENZ ,nothing else..NEVER a Daimler and even less a Mercedes.
Only the rest of the world would use the term Mercedes..and would instantly show his
origin..subtle... :wtf:

btw ..business cards from that Corporation todays show Daimler ,MERCEDES-BENZ,Daimler-Chrysler(!)or other Headers ,but I have yet to receive a MERCEDES business card...

I doubt very much that you would get a business card from Daimler-Chrysler, as that is one liaison that Daimler AG would like eliminated from the history books.

It's official. MercedesGP are losers. Subpar drivers, incompetent technical staff, megalomaniac directors...

It's nothing short of a miracle that they are here at all.

Thus spoke the forum pundits....
