And how many times exactly did use use all available setup options in rFactor?
Just sayin'

Always.
I was spending hours just to chance setups.
I even changed the way I setup the car over months.
It was possible that I got a totally different idea of a setup after half a year.
The only thing I might never have changed was gear ratio of reverse gear. :D
In fact I even changed once the tire behaviour (you know these editor files) of one mod to get tire heat under controll.

Another "must have" on a F1 game is a proper telemetry. Without that you are just trying around in the dark with your setup. If they forgot that their new baby will be born dead.

Well, I also play with the settings a lot. But actually, I think it is a reflection of evolution of my skill as a player, and most of the time you make a few tweaks that get you to the "sweet" zone, and after that you can tweak car a lot, and it may even feel different but you do not gain much.
Another thing is that if you want tweaking to have any resemblance of reality, you have to dig into really fine aspects of F1 car design and setup, and I don't think teams would be happy divulging that kind of info. So you would have left with some kind of generic model that would have very little connection to the reality.
And after all, I heard Antony Davidson made a point that when you arrive to track you don't start with "wrong" setup. That setup work teams do during Fridays and Saturdays is actually fine-tuning.

With that I agree.
Actually, they could make absolutely fantastic feature if program could analyze your driving style and compare it with real drivers. Sweat dreams...

Yet if they did all these things that hardcore sim racers want then they would never sell enough copies to make the venture worthwile. Unforunately they have had to tone down the technicality of the cars and set-up to make the game more accessable to a wider audience. This is is something I'm tempted to agree with. While I'd love a hugely accurate F1 sim I think it'd just be far too complex and ridiculous to get your head around everything, especially when you consider the teams in reality use multiple computers and engineers to analyze telemtry as is.

Thats wrong they did it on F1 2002, F1 challenge and Rfactor
These games are all very good with good handling, adjustable steering, many setup options and a telemetry program.
I am sure they sold enough copies of the game.
Codmaster concentrates only on graphics.
It was the same with dirt 1 and 2.

Well, I didn't play dirt so I'd reserve my opinion, but IMHO if they manage to get handling well, and give me some freedom with setup, I'd say fine.
It doesn't make sense to have that much nuts and bolts as long it is not based on a real thing within a mathematical model.

When this one hase the same steering as in dirt you don't need to buy it.
Dirt and Grid have great handling attributes! Try using a controller with it instead of a keyboard, or at least split the keys like I do.

There's another interesting thing around
http://www.ferrarivirtualacademy.com/game/en/index.jsp

15 euro for one car and one track seems a lot, but hey it's a Ferrari)))

Actually, the thing that makes me want this game is that they said there would be kinda training in it, and you would be able to compare your laps with Alonso's, Massa's and Fisichella's.

Hmm haven't tried yet eh? Looks not too bad in the vids.

Bobby Labonte told us a few weeks ago in iRacing that he'll be seeing us when the FW-31 comes out. He thinks he'll be pretty quick in an F1 car, even though I am generally faster than him on road courses in a Solstice :)

I'm pleased about f1 2010 but it is Ferrari virtual academy that got me excited. For those who don't know It is based on the Ferrari simulator, the tracks are laser scanned, The physics are accurate with aerodynamic behaviour, the tyres' characteristics. The car is modelled and based on the original CAD project, and you get to go up against real lap times set by the Ferrari drivers.

I want to buy it but fear the money might go to help develop the cars more and I want Mclaren to win the WCC :)

lol yeah, I know. Gonna buy it anyways right now. Looks like a lot of work went in and they went the proper iRacing route, laser scanning the track and using real data to render the cars visually and physics wise.

I wonder if they hired the iRacing crew to laser scan for them, as they have it down to an art now, and have the gear.
