According to the commentators Alonso had a fresh engine, but then again that's when they were doing 20,000rpm. Of course an engine failure is not impossible now, but they're so much more rare nowadays. We'll see if the engine maps for the EBD bring about any problems during this race where 70% of the lap is at full throttle.

I'm referring to the last post in the previous page, which I will add to my post above so it doesn't look like I'm talking to myself.

I thought the one who broke the record was Hakkinen? He did something 370-380km/h, no?

All I found is that in 1999 Coulthard did 361.8 km/h in Monza.

Its looking increasingly likley that this will be a cuircit that the F-Duct may be one where it just isnt enough of an advantage to run. McLaren and Sauber arnt running it, i sence many other teams wont run it as well.

I will say this, i expect to see many of the new teams be closer to the front at Monza as they inherently run less downforce anyways. Id expect to see Virgin and HRT to run really close to the midfeild, but it depends on their relyability.

Im expecting a shock here, but setup time will be just on the Saturday morning, as theres showers expected for the Friday: http://uk.weather.com/weather/10day-Monza-ITXX0049

Mclaren have now said they may run it. Expect back to back tests to decide what configuration to run. I've heard the non f duct is no shark fin, might look quite nice!

The f-duct is of little or no gain on Monza. That's if you don't have a special low downforce package that fits it. Ferrari seem to have the time and money to develop such a package for only this race(which is ofcourse very special). McLaren are hesitating and Renault(according to Eric Bouiller) definetly wont use the f-duct. On Cirque Jaque Villenuve, Renault had the highest top speed, so they might still do very well on Monza, considering the downforce level is even less here. McLaren is ofcourse favourite and Ferrari is a question mark, but it's their home turf so anything might happen. As usuall I'm hoping that "Bobby K" will seal the deal, but most likely Hamilton will.

Actually, a lot of McLaren's advantage this year has been derived from having an f-duct, either to maximise top speed, or to add more wing without sacrificing top speed. Given that most teams won't run the duct in Monza... I wonder if that will affect the balance of things...
