Laguna race cancelled

Next weekend's A1 Grand Prix round at Laguna Seca has been cancelled, autosport.com can reveal.

The move will be officially confirmed later today, but autosport.com understands that the decision to can the race has been taken for operational reasons.

The cancellation means that Team France have won the inaugural A1 GP title, as their points tally cannot now be overhauled by nearest rivals Team Switzerland in the one remaining meeting.

Reports suggest that concerns about the safety of the Californian track have led to the event's abandonement. But Laguna Seca hosted a round of the American Le Mans Series, which is listed as a grade two event, as recently as October 2005.

if its cancelled then too bad. i have been looking forward to it for a long time. i've heard that it has a very steep turn which goes downhill and is very scary. does anybody know about it?

The corkscrew at laguna Seca is one of those memorable, great sections of a track that really stand out. Just like Eau Rouge of Spa, or the carousel of the old Nurburgring, it's part of the identy of a unique track.
The corkscrew is entered after a fast climbing left hander, almost a blind braking situation, where the drivers have to make a very hard right, followed by a very hard left, while plunging down one of the most extreme elevation drops in road racing.

is it not blind braking point, into a Left, Down the Hill into a Right?

Clarkson did it on top gear in an NSX

Yeah, seems that Dave was seeing it on a mirror! The blind braking point is on a soft right, then hard left, drop down and right again. Then, there is a short straight and a left turn.
