it´s likely for the FW flap adjustment.

Fantastic details as always, Zgred !
That new FW is looking strikingly thinner than the old one. I'm sure they are joining now to the flexi-wing league :)

Does anyone have any more info on why Jenson's car "overheated" during FP2?

Apparently (according to Holly Samos on 5Live) it was NOT related to blown diffusor testing, although I suppose if it WAS to do with a new engine map, they could still claim the above.

Some pictures of the rear wing I came across:

I also came across a couple shot of Lewis really studying the RW, especially the rear side of it. Unfortunately, the pictures were from the front side and didn't show much.

Funny how mclaren started the season with the varied camber wings. Now they have resorted to the straight design like Redbull had from the beginning.
Mclaren have been using wavy wings for years now; looks like they realized it has some disadvantages.
I was wondering why the redbull rear wing was so simple, but it seems the simpler wing has more predictable behavior, and they were actually way ahead in coming to this conclusion.

what's the golden socket under and to the right of the drive shaft?
Image

KERS related, or is it some kind of auxiliary mounting?

That's the gearbox cross shaft, every F1 gearbox has this part. It takes the motion from the gearbox and translates it 90 degrees to drive the differential.

The great part about this cover\shaft is that its height is pretty much fixed by the regulations, making it a useful reference point for assessing diff height of suspension geometry. As the gearbox input shaft height is fixed by the crankshaft height rule (58mm) and thus the gearbox shaft spacing rule (85mm) then fixes the output shaft which this is inline with at no less than 143mm.

I see, i figured it was a main gear in the box, but I found the external appearance interesting; the spline and the bolt holes. They may as well be for ease of servicing or disassemble.

It looks strange : negative rake on this picture? Or it's just an illusion ? Looks like the front ride height is higher than the rear
