Thanks Scarbs.

So their EBD is now fully up and running. Their F-duct appears to be on song according to the speed traps figures they are setting and the car had some semblance of balance.
Those Barge boards are magical

It's interesting that some teams come up with these kind of bargeboards at exactly the same time.
I wonder if they have some special purpose apart from aero.
Maybe they contain some ballast weight to move the CoG more to the front.
The Korea track could demand this.
What do you think about it?

I would think, that it would place the ballast relatively high, compare to putting it onto the splitter or into the front wing.

I just do not want to believe Mercedes would be in a position to move ballast forward..
apart from that: nice idea...racing yachts have keels filled with concrete ...(maybe nowadays tungsten as well?)

There is no way that racing yacht keels are filled with concrete, (maybe some home built yachts) Weight low down is vital, so lead is the most common, with cast iron used on older yachts. But some of the high tech racers, use spent plutonium, which has been banned in some boats. Concrete does not have the weight required, absorbs water, and does not adhere to grp or cf. I know it is off topic.
But in regard to Mercedes, it would be quite easy to move the ballast, provided that there is space to relocate it.

J109 racing yacht on the isle of wight(right next to southampton) used concrete in its keel during a race. Heavy winds forced their hand...but I think if tungsten was hanging around somewhere they would have used that.

so it is maybe the material of choice for some who did it always like this...and tungsten was similar to unobtanium....

There are not just high end race jachts on this world.
I think tungsten is to expensive to waste it in a jacht.
Concreate is cheap and does its job.

and if you get it on land, there wouldn't be much damage if you have it right to the hull

Lovely avatar shrek.

Yes, but how much is tungsten? I remember this stuff being abundant and cheap?
Still though, my friend (yachtie) tells me the J109 has quite a keel, so they actually put wet cement in as if they won,(which my friend alleges they did) the prize money would pay for a new boat!

thanks

i meant that if you hit something (like a log) with a concrete block, it needs to be pretty tough to break the concrete

p.s. we're really getting off topic we went from Mercedes GP to a yacht
