Ah! I love the yellow writing!

Ya, yellow txt. is nice, but kinda boring/plain looking sidewall. I was expecting the Pirelli "P". But, more importantly, is the tire performance. Just out of curiosity, do tires have to be black in color? Can they be made another color...eg. grey?

Rubber is whiteish, they add carbon black to make the tires black.

BFG I think sells tires with red or blue stripes in the tread, so you can, ya know, do cooler burnouts than your friends.

Would be cool to see colored rubber getting built up on the track. The racing line would become pretty distinct!

A few more looks at the pirellis. Why does some of the rims have a yellow ring? Is this to indicate the compound? I wonder if the rim manufacturers agreed to this?

BFG I think sells tires with red or blue stripes in the tread, so you can, ya know, do cooler burnouts than your friends.

Schwalbe and Continental makes bicyle tyres in a large host of colours ragning from white , yellow, green, red, blue, .... Anything to match the coloour of your frame basically; Schwalbe also haas triple-compound cycle-tyres in their product-line, for increased grip and reduced rolling-resistance. Surely, this could be valuable/applicable as well in the F1 tyres. I'm thinking then of extreme wets where the open tread-blocks are a softer compound then the lower more closed tread-blocks. If memory servs me well, I thyink Bridgestone started metnionign this somewhere at the same time last yr for the past season, but don't know if it actually was implemented.

RBR is NOT fielding Jaime. Ferrari are using their regular drivers. HRT fielding Pastor Maldonado, interestingly enough. Maybe he's going to HRT?:s

Maldonado testing the HRT is part of the Williams-HRT deal. I think it's pretty much official that Maldonado will be driving for Williams next year, so I guess they somehow negotiated these extra test-days for him so he can prepare better and perhaps provide some extra feedback.

Say you were a Pirelli engineer. Would you rather listen to what a world champion has to say, or what a simulator guy who's never driven in anger has to say?

I'd rather listen to whoever gives the most verbally precise and useful feedback while producing representative lap times.

Being a fast driver doesn't necessarily mean you're a good test driver, though it can often be the case.

- A mute person who records erratic lap-times is not very useful as a test driver.
- A fast driver can also be a bad test driver. And vice versa.

That's interesting. James Roberts F1 (@JRobertsF1 if you do Twitter) tweeted that: "Vettel reported that the Pirelli fronts were stronger and the rears weaker which caused the car to slide around more. #f1 #testing"

Also he reported that Vettel suffered right-rear tyre failure.

I don't know if I'd call sliding cars and tire failures "good."
