Mercedes GP W02

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

interesting placement for the camera housings on top of the FW - IMHO.

Can anyone find a side-by-side comparison with the RB7 of the pullrod?

Ross Brawn developed the first telemetry system for Williams, so I guess is some sort of engineer. Not one of those with a certificate, maybe. He also worked in the aerodynamics in the past.

Interim diffuser maybe? Looks pretty plain for the moment.

I've been looking through the past few pages and can't find any mention of this, so sorry if it has already been covered, but why is the merc the only car without turning vanes on the sidepods? wondering if any aero guys could shed some light on this?

I really hope so. Other teams are even using the endplates of the rear wing over the diffuser...

Anyway, issues already? http://twitter.com/F1Lite/status/32375160187133952
Mercedes have had a spot of bother this morning, with reported reliability issues. Rosberg is running this morning, Schumi after lunch. #F1

I'd rather it happen now, than at race weekend...

Better angle of diffuser, they are blowing the starter hole:

Packaging at the rear is great, everything is lifted up off the diffuser so the exhaust can blow over the top of the whole thing and through the starter hole. Sauber's is probably second to this.

I'd be happy, this is what testings for, hope they find all the bugs and eliminate them.

Is that an active rear wing? It doesn't have a central actuator like the other designs. Perhaps an interim static wing?

I will go out on a limb and say "I am very confident that the W02 will have VERY similar characteristics to the RB6 in terms of front wing touching the ground during turns."

Probably to get better airflow under the car, helping the floor create more downforce.
