McLaren MP4-26 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The explanation from scarbs is that this arrangement puts the side pod inlets in the dirty air allowing the clean airflow to make it back to the rear wing unimpeded.

maybe i was wrong in my last post, under the sidepods the bodywork seeems in two different gray/carbon colour, and during the live streaming the dark part gave the impression ofa rectangular hole..

I think McLaren may also take the prize for cleanest rear end. Amazingly tight rear when coupled to the side pod channels.

It's the only car to still feature the snow plough at the front as well. Hopefully they'll be able to replicate the amazing front end they had last year where the front seemed absolutely planted in the mid to low speed corners.

This car really excites me :) Hopefully going to be good enough to allow Jensen and Lewis to challenge for the title.

Has anyone noticed that the 3D render of the MP4-26 on the McLaren website can be driven around using your keyboard arrow keys?

I just had some fun shunting the sponsors logos around with the car :D

Is that a mini rollover blade allowing them to lower the engine air intake so that it supplies more air to the other intake?

Innovative / Interesting brake duct as well. Looks like a very clean and slippery solution.

Yep. Now I'm not sure how accurate the handling characteristics of the 3D model are...but that car power-slides really well!!
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Is it just me or it looks like the car has a REALLY long wheel base?

As per my pic above, it's longer than the Ferrari and probably roughly on a par with the Red Bull.

Sidepods remind me of the Benetton B195 on steroids...

I would suppose that all the air channels would have a venturi effect on the air to the rear whilst gaining cooling from the disturbed air behind the front wheels?
