McLaren MP4-26 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's last year wing.
Is it really? I don't remember this one.

McLarens MP4-26 looks very complex, overweight and radical... some may argue that its too radical.

RedBull proved in 2010 that simplicity is key, and fear that McLaren seem to design their cars on a laptop without actually thinking things through.

This car could be a rocket, or slow as a coach but the F-Duct screwed McLaren's 2010 campaign and fear that the radical design of the 2011 challenger may distract them from developing mid-season.

On a plus note it is good to see McLaren going off on a tangent and not copying other ideas and instead coming up with their own.

There is nothing to force them, but they can run it in qualifying and they would be dumb not to run it.
I guess they just fit old wing for presentation.

Yes, that's the one. Looking at this pic, both nineties cars are about as close to Macca as the other.

It's there. The pipe is an ovalled rectangle.
Turning vanes also there on top the floor
OK, I see the rectangle:

But It is too small and there is no thermal protection in the surroundings. It seems to be the cover for the wheel camera.

34 pages for this? Seriously...and unless you're a blind idiot you can clearly see that the exhaust is pointing backwards..

34 Pages for the whole car, besides McLaren said those exhausts were NOT the final ones they will use in testing.

Don't know does it work, but I like their idea.
In these days radical thinking is so rare.

So with the longer car, Mclaren will be looking at higher top speeds again?

I read somewhere that a longer car gives you some straightline benefits but hinders you very slightly at tighter tracks.
More could have been done.
