Mercedes GP W02

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Nice to see the car is capable of a fast time. Also, Schumacher is putting a lot of laps on the car, good to see.

How long before Segawobble starts crying foul; "W02 designed for Schumacher!"

Well, it looks as though this car destroys tyres for fun. Bang goes Schumacher's aggressive turn in. :D

This is great, though, isn't it? I for one am looking forward to the return of pit stop strategies.

well the FIA should stop this stupid requirement for the use of both compounds and no mixing of compounds. If the drivers could mix the compounds on thecars they could fit the harder tyres were they need it most and the softs were its not so critical. Hands another dimension back the

And Schumacher wins with a 15 pitstop strategy!

Longrun of Schumacher and Webber in comaparioson. We know nothing about the fuel but apart from that, they look realy close to each other.

Looking at those times, things aren't sounding so bad now.

Next longrun, same times. The Merc seems to be more aggressive with the tyres as the RB. He brings them earlyer on temperature but he can't hold them alive such long, as the rb can.

10:30 Some insight into Schumacher's run by @TeamAnglais: Schumacher's run, in which he did the fastest lap of the test so far, wasn't a low fuel one: 20.3, 21.3, 22.0, 22.6, 22.9, 23.8, 24.2, 24.2, 24.1, 24.6.

17 lap run by both the Virgin and Mercedes. Schumacher averaged 1m25.372s, Glock 1m26.307s.

I think that Virgin is showing some quite respectable pace there - definitely seems a lot closer than last year.

Looking at times, it seems like the tires go off pretty quickly and then stabilize for several laps and then they take a dive again.

If he only had fuel for ten laps then it was low fuel........... If you look at the averages in longer runs he was still a good couple of seconds of what Webber was doing when the times stabilised.

I'm not entirely sure what that match up of lap times above is supposed to show.

+1 it was about time

That was indeed a flyer. Certain compounds appear to hold up better than others as the posted times vs Webber yield. I can only guess it's the super soft and softs which fall off right away.
